Macpherson Oil Company ( MOC ) is a California corporation that was founded in 1981. It is a family owned and managed domestic energy company with headquarters in Santa Monica, California. Its principal operations office is near the Round Mountain Oil Field in Kern County, California, in close proximity to Bakersfield. MOC operates 39 oil and gas leases, producing approximately 6, 000 barrels of oil per day. These leases are located in the Round Mountain, Mt. Poso and Midway Sunset fields in Kern County, California and the Citronelle field in Alabama. MOC is the general partner of six limited partnerships, is the managing partner of two joint ventures, and has operating contracts with these partnerships and joint ventures, and others. MOC owns oil and gas rights in the fields it operates. According to the most recent information currently available from California State Division of Oil, Gas and Geothermal Resources, MOC is the eleventh largest producer of oil on shore in California. MOC has extensive experience in enhanced oil recovery. MOC developed the leases it operates using thermal enhanced oil recovery ( steam flooding ), water flooding and high volume lift operating techniques and horizontal well drilling and development. MOC is a general partner of National Petroleum Associates who owns an in interest in Mt. Poso Cogeneration Company. Mt. Poso Cogeneration Company owns a 49.5-megawatt cogeneration plant and thermally enhanced oil recovery project in the Mt. Poso Oil Field, west area. MOC was instrumental in the development of the Mt. Poso Cogeneration Company's project, which began in 1987 and was placed in commercial operation in 1989. The Mt. Poso Cogeneration Project is a $125 million coal fired electrical power plant that also provides up to 45, 000 pounds per hour of high quality steam to the Mt. Poso Oil Field west area for steam flooding operations. MOC operates the Mt. Poso Oil Field west area.
