Teeth Cleaning
You might be asking yourself does my child really need an examination and cleaning every six months? The answer isn’t as simple as you may think. The frequency of exams and cleanings should stay consistent as a child develops to keep an eye on teeth health and prevent any major problems from arising during adulthood. A cleaning every six months is commonly the minimum recommendation by most doctors but Dr. Oriola creates a plan tailored to your child’s needs. It’s important to understand that it’s not just a cleaning!
Dental Sealants
As your child’s permanent teeth grow in, the dentist can help prevent decay by applying a thin wash of resin (called a sealant) to the back teeth, where most chewing is done. This protective coating keeps bacteria from settling in the hard-to-reach crevices of the molars. But make sure that kids know that sealants aren’t a replacement for good brushing and regular flossing.

Perhaps the most common reason why kids come to see Dr. Oriola is to repair tooth decay. The dentist will numb the patient to make sure they are comfortable. Most dentists will then use either composite resin or ceramic material to fill the tooth and prevent the cavity from growing bigger. A filling can be applied to baby teeth and permanent teeth which is why it’s one of the most common dental procedures. The process is fast and pain free because Dr. Oriola takes great care of her patients.
Crowns
Helping your child commit to routine recare allows for the early detection of many costly dental problems. If cavities go undetected for extended periods of time the treatment options may be limited to root canals, crowns, and possibly the removal of tooth. This is also why it is important to update your x-rays at every recare visit. At Pediatric Dentistry, you can expect Dr. Oriola to only recommend necessary radiographs. A necessary radiograph is one that is used to diagnose the extent of a dental problem that we already know exists, such as a broken tooth, a cavity, or an abscess. We also must use radiographs as part of an initial or periodic oral examination. In these examinations, radiographs are used to determine whether there are problems in a beginning stage that cannot be seen just by looking at the tooth or area.
