Exide has four business segments: transportation North America, transportation Europe and rest of world, industrial energy North America, and industrial energy Europe and rest of world. The company markets its products under several international brands including Champion, Exide, Orbital Grid Technology, Stowaway and TrailBlazer in North America. In Europe and Asia, the company markets products under the Exide, Tudor, Centra, Fulmen and Deta names. Exide Technologies was founded as the Electric Storage Battery Company, in 1888. The founder, W.W. Gibbs, formed the Electric Storage Battery Company to create a dependable mechanism for storing power so electric lighting companies could provide services to their customers in case of emergencies. Headquartered in Alpharetta, Ga., the company is traded on NASDAQ under the ticker symbol XIDE. The company maintains one location in Salina, Kan.
