Internal Medicine
Dr. Hearth has several years of experience in medical and cosmetic dermatology. A life-long Sacramento native and 5th generation Californian, Dr. Hearth received his Bachelor of Science degree in nutrition science from UC Davis. He attended Vanderbilt University School of Medicine where he graduated with his M.D. degree in 1994. He then completed an internship in internal medicine and a residency in dermatology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Upon completion of his residency in dermatology, Dr. Hearth joined the clinical faculty in the Division of Dermatology at Vanderbilt. He was later selected as a Glogau fellow in the Department of Dermatology at UC San Francisco. He joined the clinical faculty in the Department of Dermatology at UC San Francisco and completed a fellowship in cosmetic dermatologic and laser surgery. Dr. Hearth later returned to the Sacramento area to open his own practice.

Laser Resurfacing

Skin Cancer
Skin cancer affects one in five Americans, and more than one million new cases of skin cancer will be diagnosed in the United States this year. It is recommended that a person see a dermatologist once a year for a routine skin examination (a person with a history of skin cancer may need to be seen more frequently.) Also, it is important to perform monthly self-examinations of your skin. If anything on the skin changes, grows, or bleeds, you should see a dermatologist. Skin cancer is very treatable when caught early.
Dermatology
Over time, sun exposure causes damage to the skin. One of the first signs of this damage is discoloration of the skin with brown patches and spots. Dull texture is also an early sign of sun damage and aging skin. Wrinkles are next to appear: first, wrinkles occur with movement of facial muscles, and then wrinkles form without movement, when your face is at rest. Acne Treatment
Since acne has many forms, Dr. Hearth can design an individual approach to successfully control your breakouts. Any acne treatment takes time, approximately 4-8 weeks to see significant improvement. Continuing treatment is usually necessary to maintain improvement.

Eczema
Eczema is a general term describing a multitude of related skin conditions, usually manifested by dry, irritated, and itchy skin. Atopic dermatitis, nummular dermatitis, and hand dermatitis are common types of eczematous dermatitis (eczema).
Lesions
Brown spots, referred to as lentigo, (aka, "age spots") are flat, light brown-colored spots that result from chronic sun exposure. Over time, these unwanted lesions can appear on your face and on the back of your hands and arms. Freckles, which range from mild to excessive, can be hereditary or also from sun exposure.
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels: superficial ( Refinity Peel, B-lift Peel, Vitalize Peel ) and medium-depth chemical peels (TCA Peel). TCA peels are stronger than superficial peels and require some down time.
