!! SNEAKY BILLING PRACTICES !!
Check other reviewers as well (Megan McBride-DeShazo) below.

To be clear, the doctors are great. I was happy to be there, great atmosphere etc.

Their billing practices, not so great. READ THE FINE PRINT. I thought I did... but I didn't catch the part where they automatically draft your card on file with no invoice to you, and no option to talk with them first. This business practice (automatic billing with no invoice) is simply not a good thing for the patient. It's definitely a good thing for them, as they try to make sure they can obtain payment, without even authorizing it with the person paying. I find the practice of some doctors offices to be very pro-doctor and very bad for the patient. Sometimes you can just tell it's all about the money. This is a great place to go for skin care, but sneaky billing practices forced me to go elsewhere.

Good luck Sunflower Dermatology!

By the way, it took a week to get to billing ... called four times. First time "It can take up to 24 hours" second time "it can take 24-72 hours" ... all while the line was busy 50% of the time I tried to call.

Made an appointment, was told to only bring insurance card a co-pay. The day of the appointment myself and daughter walked in and started to fill out the necessary paperwork when I was abruptly told by the receptionist that we needed co-pay, insurance card and either a major credit card or bank card before my daughter could be seen. I explained how I was only told to bring in insurance and co-pay when once again I was abruptly interrupted and told she would not be seen without a credit card on file. I then tried to explain that I could bring one back in after appointment due to it being 10 minutes before our appointment time and was boldly told NO, WE NEED A BANK CARD OR CREDIT CARD ON FILE. Then the hateful receptionist proceeded to tell me to just have my husband bring it to me. I then said to her, my husband is a teacher and cannot leave a classroom full of kids to do so. I then abruptly told her myself how ridiculous it was and left. I then called their Kansas City location to complain and was told that they were shocked that we were turned away due to it being their fault and that they were lenient on that policy. I will never return there and WILL NOT recommend them to any of my many friends and family. Now on to turn them into the BBB.

They did nothing to fix my problem, and had no sympathy towards my situation. The workers are extremely rude, and I attempted to contact the office manager several times with no success. I waited over an hour for my follow up appointment, just for the doctor to tell me there was nothing he can do. Going to this office has done nothing but wasted my time, energy, and money. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE NO ANYONE!!!

Unprofessional

Dr Matthys is actually a good dermatologist. He treated my Rosacea and another skin condition well. The problem is that the overall experience at Sunflower is rude and unprofessional. First, be prepared to wait 1 1/2 to 2 hours past your appointment time. Secondly be prepared to deal with the Dr "prescribing" you outrageously priced skin care items that he sells at his spa. Third, expect to be treated rudely by Alicia and the unprofessional staff. Lastly, they will make you give them authorization to bill your credit card for any amount your insurance does not cover without telling you. God forbid you have an emergency when the Dr. is out of town because Alicia will just get an attitude over the phone and the Dr. will not return your call. There are much more professional dermatologists out there as I have since learned.

Overall

I thought Sunflower Dermatology was awful - definitely more of a day spa than a professional clinical practice. I found the staff to be unfriendly, I had to wait 1.5 hrs. (after my apt. time) before I was seen, they made me go on a tour of the facility since I was a first time guest (even though I expressly said I didn't want to; I think they were just trying to distract me from the fact that I had waited for over an hour), and when the "Dr." prescribed me things, he actually just listed all the products that I should buy (all conveniently sold by him). Maybe some people go for this B.S., but I will be looking for a new dermatologist that is more concerned with my health/skin issues than selling me as much as possible.

Dr. Menser, the female physici...

Dr. Menser, the female physician at sunflower dermatology, is by far the most wonderful physician I have ever encountered. She was incredibly attentive, she was very good at explaining things, and she did such a good job of following up with me. She met my husband a day after my appointment and actually remembered me as a patient. When I called to check on test results she asked to speak to me personally and she spent a good deal of time explaining the results and telling me how to care for my wounds. The care I received from her was literally outstanding. If every physician were like her, Doctors would have a fantastic reputation.
