Professionalism

My pets and I have been seeing Dr. Linda Kennedy and her staff for over 15 years - starting when I was a child! As an adult, I've continued to see the Rice Clinic because of the overwhelming care and attention that is given to my pets every time they visit.

Rice has gone above and beyond my expectations for a vet clinic! I feel like family when I am visiting, and am always allowed to be with my pet in the exam room. I am never separated from my pets and asked to wait in the lobby during a procedure (which has happened to me at other clinics I have taken friends' pets to).

Dr. Kennedy has always been great about rushing in my cat with frequent UTI issues on short notice. She kindly cleaned up a wound area that my cat had fixed at an Emergency Clinic, which wasn't healing properly. Rice is a great clinic because they are not in the business just to make money, as so many clinics in larger towns seem to be!

Preventive Care

Dental Care
We utilize a number of pharmaceuticals ranging from local anesthetics and anti-inflammatories, to stronger pain medications to keep your pet as comfortable and as pain free as possible before, during and after any procedure. Our goal is that your pet never experience pain during or after any surgical or dental procedure.
Vaccination
Vaccinations are one of the best ways to provide great care and attention to your best friend, and ensure it remains healthy for years to come.
Nutritional Counseling
Feline Leukemia causes immunosuppression, major organ system degeneration and/or cancer. Signs of this disease are usually vague and include weight loss, decreased appetite, depression, vomiting and diarrhea. Cats can also get secondary infections because of the decreased immune system function. This virus is spread by casual contact between cats. This vaccination is recommended for cats that are outside unsupervised, cats that are in contact with outdoor cats and cats that live with FeLV positive cats.
Comprehensive Examination
In some cases, owners are unaware that their dog or cat has dental disease. The problem may be identified with a routine physical examination or during investigation of another problem.

Parasites Treatment and Control
These are parasites that inhabit the hearts and lungs of infected dogs. Heartworm disease can cause serious health problems, and may eventually lead to heart failure and death. Heartworm infection is transmitted by mosquitoes. The prevalence of this deadly disease has increased steadily since it was first identified, and it now affects pets in all 50 states.
Behavioral Disorder Treatment
A virus that is a multi-systemic disease. It most commonly causes neurological signs such as seizures or an uncoordinated gate. It can also cause respiratory signs such as nasal and ocular discharge or digestive signs such as diarrhea and vomiting. More serious forms of this disease are most commonly seen in young unvaccinated puppies but dogs of all ages can be affected. This disease can be spread in urine, feces, nasal and ocular discharge.woof!

Parvovirus causes fever, depression, anorexia, bloody diarrhea, vomiting, and rapidly progressive dehydration. It is spread in the feces. Severe cases may lead to death in young puppies. CPV is an extremely contagious disease and the virus can survive for long periods in the environment.

Infection Treatment

Leptospirosis Treatment
Leptospirosis infection can cause liver damage or kidney disease in dogs. It is spread in the urine and can sometimes be found in standing water. Dogs can get an infection oral, nasal, or skin exposure. This vaccination is recommended for farm dogs, breeding dogs and dogs that hunt in water. Leptospirosis can cause flu-like symptoms in people and can also cause abortion in pregnant women.

These tests can be performed on blood serum to detect the presence and/or number of antibodies against certain organisms or certain parts of the organism itself. The most common serologic testing performed at our hospital for routine health screening in dogs is the heartworm test and Lyme antibody test. In cats the most commonly screened for, is feline leukemia virus and feline immunodeficiency virus.

Urinalysis. Looking at a urine sample along with the bloodwork goes a long way towards evaluating kidney function, determining whether a pet has diabetes, checking for protein loss through the urine, and looking for evidence of urinary tract infections.

Thyroid level. We recommend checking thyroid levels in all middle age and senior cats and dogs. Hyperthyroidism in cats and hypothyroidism in dogs are common hormonal disorders in these older populations.

These parasites inhabit hearts and lungs of infected dogs. Both diseases can cause serious health problems, and may eventually lead to heart failure.
Kidney Disease Treatment
This same recommendation holds for our pets as well. Animals, like people, are more susceptible to various conditions as they age – including cancer, gastrointestinal disorders (e.g. inflammatory bowel disease, liver problems), kidney disease, and various hormonal disorders (e.g. thyroid imbalances, diabetes), just to name a few. Often, we can detect changes on labwork that indicate one of these conditions may be present before your pet shows any signs of a problem. This is very valuable because it gives the opportunity for earlier medical intervention.
