Welcome to the Rheumatology Department at The Southern Colorado Clinic. Rheumatology is the medical specialty for the diagnosis and treatment of Arthritis and Musculo-Skeletal diseases. Since we are the only Rheumatology clinic between Colorado Springs and Santa Fe, NM, we are very busy. We value your time, therefore, we generally run right on schedule. We ask that you arrive on time for your appointment and bring the following items at the time of your first visit: old records, laboratory report, X-Rays, and list of present Medications.
Pediatric Care
Today, Southern Colorado Clinic offers the services of Family Medicine, Occupational Medicine, Orthopedics, Pediatrics, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Physical Therapy, Rheumatology, Urgent Care, X-ray and Bone Densitometry. Urgent Care has two locations that are conveniently located on the north and south sides of Pueblo.
Primary Care
At Southern Colorado Clinic (SCC), we wish to provide all our patients with quality medical services from our primary care providers, specialists and ancillary services. Because we are a group practice with electronic medical records (EMR), all our medical records are integrated throughout the clinic. Therefore if you receive services in one area, another provider can easily review your chart. This helps to coordinate medical care and improve communications amongst our doctors, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and physical therapists. In addition we provide walk-in x-ray services and densitometry without leaving the main building.

In the first twenty years of business the Clinic grew to twenty five physicians, two medical facilities, an Urgent Care and started an HMO insurance company. Recruiting physicians to the Clinic has been a long-term process over the past 40 years and more than 120 doctors of varying specialties have come to serve Pueblo and southern Colorado’s population because of the Clinic.

These services include: Audiograms, Breath Alcohol Tests Screening, Consultative Services, DOT Physical Exams, Drug Abuse Screening, Ergonomic Survey and Ergonomic Training Programs, Functional Capacity Evaluations, Job Site Analysis, immunization Programs, Physical Agility Tests, Pre-Employment Screening, Vision Testing and Wellness Programs.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behavioral Health Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing individual and group counseling sessions to patients suffering from mental illness and/or substance abuse issues. The Behavioral Health Counselor will also be responsible for conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, and working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals.

The Clinic became a reality by the summer of 1970 with the first intrepid physicians, Dr. Carl Bartecchi, Dr. Rodney Dwyer and Dr. Larry Walls setting up practice. The second wave of pioneers came in 1971 and included Dr. Charles Bedard, Dr. Val Cichon and Dr. Charles Salerno. Then in the summer of 1972 Dr. Charles Hanson, Dr. Klaus Anselm and Dr. Muryl Laman arrived, rounding out the original seven founders. All the above doctors trained at the Henry Ford Hospital, except for Dr. Laman who trained at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Harold Frost, chairman of the Orthopedics Department at Henry Ford Hospital, joined the group in 1973.

Physical Therapy
Balance can be impaired for a number of reasons, including neuropathy, Parkinson’s disease, advanced age, and vestibular problems causing vertigo. Fortunately, strong research suggests that Physical Therapy can improve balance, treat vestibular disorders and improve confidence with movement.
Manual Therapy
Intramuscular manual therapy to assist in relieving pain, tension headaches and overuse injuries of muscles, joints and tendons to ensure a rapid return to activities and reduce the risk of symptom return.
