- James E. Talmage, distinguished scholar and spiritual giant, was once selected to succeed Karl G. Maeser as president of Brigham Young Academy. The building named in his honor was completed in 1971, the first building on campus of earthquake-resistant design. Its computer area was built separately from its classroom area so the computers could operate on a 24-hour basis. In 1990 the building was renovated and a four-story expansion added. This building houses the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences' Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Statistics, and Computer Science Departments, as well as the Office of Information Technology Operations.
