Dr. Mercer is originally from the state of West Virginia. She graduated from West Virginia University in 1999 with a degree in Human Nutrition and Foods. She attended optometry school in Philadelphia at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry from 1999-2003 graduating with honors. Dr. Mercer joined Tidewater Eye Centers in 2005. She has extensive training in treatment of ocular disease such as glaucoma, infections, and dry eye disease and in managing cataract patients both pre and post operatively. Her special area of interest is in the fitting and prescribing of specialty contact lenses including scleral lenses for patients with corneal diseases such as keratoconus or corneal transplants.

Macular Degeneration
Dr. Kori Elkins is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of vitreoretinal diseases. Dr. Elkins graduated from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. She completed her ophthalmology training at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee and then went on to The University of Iowa to complete subspecialty training in vitreoretinal diseases and Surgery. She specializes in the treatment of age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and retinal surgery.
Laser Eye Surgery

Dr. Newsom is a native of Portsmouth, VA and has resided in Virginia Beach, VA for 25 years. He and his wife Susan have four daughters: Megan is a plastic surgery resident at the Medical College of Virginia, Caroline lives and works in Virginia Beach, Emily works for HUD in Chicago, and Julia is a senior at UVA.
