Post Graduate 2nd Year Fellowship (PGY-2) at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center to become a certified Dental Oncologist. A Dental Oncologist is a sub-specialty of Oral Pathology trained to treat cancer patients. Pre-treatment, present, and former Cancer patients have special Dental requirements due to their compromised immune system. Dental Oncologists are trained to meet the needs of treating ALL cancer patients regardless of the type of cancer. Changes in their oral health can greatly effect a cancer patient's quality of life, and prognosis. Therefore a comprehensive oral exam by a Dental Oncologist is strongly recommended prior to receiving chemotherapy or radiation treatment.
