Elizabeth Archibeque of Flagstaff, Arizona was convicted Thursday of first-degree murder and child abuse in the death of her son, Deshaun Martinez, in March 2020.
While we don’t yet know the impact of this new law, at the Indiana Coalition to End Sexual Assault and Human Trafficking, we do know that victims of rape and incest will face an uncertain future as they navigate the narrow 10-week window that is allowed for them to seek an abortion following an assault.

A 29-year-old mother has been sentenced to life without parole after pleading guilty to the murder of her 6-year-old son.
Homicide
According to an autopsy report, the boy ultimately succumbed to starvation and his death was ruled a homicide. At the time of discovery, the boy was described as “skeletal” in appearance, with skin stretched taught over bone and sunken eyes. His body also had abrasions and bruises.
Attorney Trevor Crossen of Carmel is representing the nine men in the lawsuit, whose four counts claim endangerment, medical malpractice, negligence and punitive damages. He described them as “vulnerable” men who left their families to seek help, only to enter an "unhealthy, hazardous environment.”
