Silgan Containers, a wholly owned subsidiary of Silgan Holdings, is the largest food can supplier in North America. Silgan Holdings is a leading North American manufacturer of consumer goods packaging products with annual sales of more than $2.3 billion. Silgan operates more than 60 manufacturing facilities in the United States and Canada. In North America, the company is the largest supplier of metal containers and convenience ends for food products and is a leading supplier of metal and plastic closures for food products, and plastic containers for personal care products. Much of the company's rapid growth came in the last two decades, when Silgan Containers was officially formed from the Carnation Company's can division. Since its inception in 1987, Silgan Containers has acquired eight metal can and other packaging solutions providers to reach its present dominance in the United States. More than 4,300 people work in the 34 Silgan Containers facilities across the country. Manufacturing plants are located close to customer plants for short-distance shipping and fast access. Silgan's top management works out of headquarters in Woodland Hills, Calif.
