Wrongful Death
Walter DeForest was hired as trial counsel less than one month before trial to defend a general aviation engine manufacturer in a wrongful death case in Gwinnett County Superior Court for the State of Georgia. In the case, the plaintiffs sought more than $18 million in damages related to the crash of a Cessna 210 aircraft where the pilot's family claimed that the pilot, a well-recognized anesthesiologist, had an engine failure shortly before the plane crashed. After a two-week jury trial, the jury awarded only $1.7 million, considerably less than the damages sought by plaintiffs at trial. We have successfully defended several other death cases involving other products as well as non-death cases. We will try cases to verdict or amicably resolve them depending on the best interests of the client.

Money Laundering
From 2000 to July 2005, David left private practice to serve as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Office of the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. There, he handled a variety of criminal prosecutions and investigations and worked closely with representatives of financial institutions, including internal auditors, compliance officers, and counsel, as well as corporate representatives. For several years, David specialized in investigating complex international money laundering and narcotics importation cases.

Jackie's work focuses primarily on employment and business-related matters, including employment discrimination, harassment, wage and hour, and union contract matters.
Employment Contract
Walter's litigation work has been primarily in the civil area -- commercial disputes of all types, including trade secrets, business ownership disputes, real estate agreements, products liability, defamation claims, First Amendment access actions, business and employment contracts, noncompetition provisions, wrongful termination suits, and discrimination and harassment cases. He has litigated numerous cases in the state and federal courts throughout the United States, including cases in Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Delaware, Georgia, Florida, California, West Virginia, Ohio, Virginia, Iowa and Alabama. He recently tried two significant jury cases to verdict. David's work focuses on individual and corporate white-collar criminal defense, commercial, business, shareholders’ rights, employment litigation, Section 1983 claims, and products liability matters, as well as advising clients concerning government and regulatory investigations.
Sexual Harassment
Jackie’s practice includes advice on affirmative action, union avoidance, reasonable accommodation, hiring practices, personal services contracts, employee discipline and termination issues, and on compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act and the Family and Medical Leave Act. She drafts comprehensive employee handbooks, human resources guidelines, and affirmative action plans. She has been invited by employers on numerous occasions to speak to groups of employees and/or supervisors on topics ranging from union avoidance to sexual harassment.

Besides his white collar criminal defense and investigations work, David has litigated—and tried—a broad variety of civil matters, including trade secrets, restrictive covenants, business fraud, breach of contract, employment discrimination, minority shareholder freeze-out claims, products liability, Section 1983 claims and personal injury defense.
