Biomechanical dysfunctions that do not respond to conventional treatment methods more than likely have a central bias that will not have long lasting results with a peripheral approach. This is especially true in cases of multiple pain sites such as fibromyalgia, Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA), or any injury / experience with a traumatic basis. By treating the issues of chronicity from a central perspective, we utilize the plastic nature of the brain to create lasting changes.

Common problems managed by CHT’s include but are not limited to: fractures, tendon injuries, nerve compressions/injuries (carpal tunnel), burns, arthritis, tendonitis, sprains and strains, tumors/cysts and amputations.
Multiple Sclerosis
There are many types of disorders which can cause the above symptoms. Vestibular neuritis or labyrinthitis, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), unilateral or bilateral vestibular hypofunction and Meniere’s disease are all disorders affecting the inner ear. Central disorders including: Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, concussion, stroke, etc. There are also other causes of dizziness and balance problems such as cervicogenic dizziness (stemming from the cervical spine), migraine, anxiety, disuse disequilibrium and side effects from medications.

Occupational Therapy
Your life is made up of occupations—meaningful everyday activities. These occupations can include many roles, such as being a parent, a friend, a spouse, a tennis player, an artist, a cook, or a musician. We generally don’t think about our daily occupations until we have trouble doing them. Everyone has occupations— from the toddler whose occupations are play and learning to develop important skills, to the older adult whose occupations are engaging with family and friends and managing his or her home. If you are recovering from an accident or injury or are diagnosed with an orthopedic or neurological condition, your valued occupations may be disrupted. Occupational therapy incorporates your valued occupations into the rehabilitation process.

Manual Therapy
On your first visit, you will be greeted by our office manager and be asked to complete a few forms. Your physical or occupational therapist will provide an initial evaluation to determine your impairments and functional limitations, and develop a treatment plan designed to meet your needs and goals. Treatment begins on the first visit. Your treatment plan MAY include but is not limited to: therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, modalities such as heat or ice, a home exercise program. Visit lengths may vary, with most visits lasting approximately 1 hour. Treatment plans may consist of 1-3 visits per week. At OSPTA, we encourage treatment by the same therapist each visit for consistency of care.

For your first visit, you will need to bring your insurance card, a photo ID, and your prescription from your doctor (if applicable). When you call to schedule your appointment, you may also be asked to visit our website to print & fill out forms. Please fill out the requested forms and bring them with you on your first visit. It is best to wear loose, comfortable clothing and supportive shoe wear. If you are being treated for a hip, knee, or ankle injury, please wear or bring a pair of shorts.

Current presentation topics include “Preventing Sprain and Strain Injuries”, “Tips for Healthy Living”, “Worksite Stretching”, “Strength Training: The Fountain of Youth”, “Preventing Low Back Aches and Pains”, “Plantar Fasciitis and Ankle Sprains”, “Office Ergonomic Tips”, and “Risk Factor Awareness in the prevention of Coronary Heart Disease”. Employers may choose from one of these topics or request a topic more specific to their needs.
