Dental Examination
The team is organized as soon as the decision for placing a dental implant is reached. Following an evaluation that includes a comprehensive examination, x-rays and a consultation with the patient and members of the implant team, Dr. Clark, Dr. Cole, or Dr. Patel surgically place the implants in your jaw.
X-rays

Crowns
Lesions that appear on x-rays around the roots of teeth, or the crowns of impacted teeth are often benign cysts. Usually removing the cyst, or both the cyst and the adjacent tooth is the only treatment that is necessary. Occasionally more aggressive cysts will require removal of the surrounding bone.
Bridges
Twenty years ago, these patients would have had no alternative but to replace those teeth with either a fixed bridge or removable denture. Fixed bridges and removable dentures, however, have limitations. Removable dentures may slip or cause embarrassing clicking sounds while eating or speaking. Fixed bridges require that the adjacent teeth, often perfectly healthy teeth, be shaved down to provide retention for the bridge.

Root Canal Treatment
Statistics show that 70 percent of adults ages thirty-five to forty-four have lost at least one permanent tooth due to an accident, gum disease, a failed root canal, or tooth decay. Furthermore, by age of seventy-four, 25 percent of adults have lost all of their permanent teeth.

Dentures
Research has identified a number of factors that may contribute to the development of oral cancer. The most common are the use of tobacco and alcohol. Others include poor oral hygiene, irritation caused by ill-fitting dentures, rough surfaces on teeth, poor nutrition, some chronic infections, and the human papilloma virus (HPV).

Dental Implants
Today there is another option for patients who are missing permanent teeth. Dental implants are long-term replacements that Dr. Clark, Dr. Cole, or Dr. Patel surgically place into the bone of your jaws. Dental implants are composed of titanium metal that “fuses” with the jawbone through a process called “osseointegration.” Dental implants do not slip or make embarrassing noises that advertise the fact that you have “false teeth,” nor do they decay like the teeth anchoring a bridge.

Jaw Surgery
Orthognathic, or corrective jaw surgery is performed by Dr. Clark, Dr. Cole, or Dr. Patel to correct a wide range of minor and major skeletal and dental irregularities, including the misalignment of jaws and teeth. A patient’s ability to chew, speak, and breath can be enhanced by correcting the alignment of his or her occlusion. While a patient’s appearance may be enhanced as a result of surgery, orthognathic surgery is performed to correct functional problems.
Maxillofacial Surgery
The ability to provide patients with safe, effective outpatient anesthesia has distinguished the specialty of oral and maxillofacial surgery since its earliest days. As the surgical specialists of the dental profession, Dr. Clark, Dr. Cole, and Dr. Patel are trained in the field of anesthesia administration. Following dental school, Dr. Clark, Dr. Cole, and Dr. Patel have completed at least four years of training in a hospital-based surgical residency program including rotations through general surgery, anesthesia, and other specialties. During this time, as OMS residents they completed a six-month rotation on the medical anesthesiology service, during which they became competent in evaluating patients for anesthesia, delivering the anesthetic, and monitoring post-anesthetic patients.
Tooth Extractions
The relative ease with which a wisdom tooth may be removed depends on several factors, including the position of the tooth and the development of the tooth’s roots. Most wisdom tooth extractions are performed in our office under local anesthesia, intravenous sedation, or general anesthesia. We will discuss your anesthetic options at your consultation visit.

Orthodontics
Patients who may benefit from corrective jaw surgery include those with an improper bite resulting from misaligned teeth and jaws. In some cases, the upper and lower jaws may grow at different rates. Injuries and birth defects may also affect jaw alignment. While orthodontics can usually correct the misalignment of teeth, corrective jaw surgery is necessary to correct the misalignment of the jaws.
Braces
Before your surgery, orthodontic braces move your teeth into a new position. Because your teeth are being moved into a position that will fit together after surgery, you may at first think your bite is actually getting worse rather than better. However, once Dr. Clark, Dr. Cole, or Dr. Patel reposition your jaws with surgery, your teeth should fit together properly.
