I had the pleasure of meeting and talking with Jim Cross, owner of Vacuum Tubes, Inc., on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2019. I was extremely impressed with his knowledge of vacuum tubes, tube testing, and overall approach to dealing with fairness for his customers. I am a retired engineering manager and university professor and long-time amateur radio licensee. I will definitely be utilizing his talents and his business for my vacuum tube sales and purchases. We are fortunate that he is willing to provide an extremely valuable service to the old tube marketplace. All the best to him and his family. McDonald Davis, III, PhD; Richmond, VA

Overall

I had the pleasure of buying a vintage amplifier from Jim, and along with the excellent price I got the added value of a very objective education on old vacuum tubes. Old vacuum tubes, among guitar amp people and probably even more so among hi-fi people; are the subject of near-religious conviction. Jim is refreshingly free of that approach, and while his passion is evident, he attempts to infuse his opinion with sound logic and experience. In the future I will definitely do business with Vacuum Tubes, Inc. And as a side note- if you're considering rolling a 5751 into the place of the 12AX7: DO it.

Overall

I have dealt with Jim Cross for over a decade. He has always offered me fair prices and a no-questions-asked month long warrantee on his tubes. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of tubes and because of his warrantee, he strives to match the customer with the right tube. He asks questions, he has opinions, That's good. He's the best. I have no idea what the other person (below) is complaining about.

Most people in the audio and vacuum tube hobby are really nice, patient people. That is not the case with the guy at Vacuum Tube Inc. I called to check availability on a couple tubes that are popular with my amp, and suddenly found myself being interrogated as to why I'd want those particular kinds of tubes. When I explained they were popularly regarded amongst people who owned my amp, he stated that we were being misled and foolish. Regardless of the tube being overrated, his attitude was supremely arrogant, rude, and chastising. When I informed him that I was more focused on finding the vacuum tube than being insulted, he hung up on me. Sheesh.
