Dental Examination
We recommend having your teeth professionally cleaned every 6 months. More frequent cleaning and examination may be necessary during the treatment of many of the dental/oral disorders. Routine examination of your teeth is recommended at least every year. This may include yearly, select dental X-rays.
X-rays

Teeth Cleaning
Regular tooth cleaning by your dental hygienist is important to remove plaque that may develop even with careful brushing and flossing, especially in areas that are difficult to reach at home. Professional cleaning includes scaling and polishing. This involves the use of various instruments or devices to loosen and remove deposits from the teeth.

Fillings
Thanks to new technology and advances in adhesive dentistry, natural tooth-colored fillings provide an esthetically pleasing alternative to traditional ‘silver’ amalgam fillings.
Resin Composite
Composite “white” fillings, made of composite resin, are used to restore teeth that have small cavities. They are called “white” fillings because of the natural, tooth color of the material. Unlike inlays and onlays that are crafted in an outside lab, composite fillings can be made on-site and completed in only one office visit.
Veneers
Dental veneers (sometimes called porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates) are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored material designed to cover the front surface of teeth. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth changing their color, shape, size or length and resulting in a greatly improved appearance.
Crowns
When a tooth is cracked, decayed, or damaged, a dental crown may need to be fitted onto the tooth. A dental crown is a permanent covering that fits over the original tooth. Crowns can be made of porcelain, gold or a combination of both materials. Porcelain crowns typically have the most realistic appearance, although they tend to be less durable than other materials when used on your back molars. Dental crowns can whiten, reshape and realign existing teeth, adding to a healthy and vibrant smile.
Bridges
A dental bridge is a device used to fill the space where a tooth has fallen out or been removed. A typical dental bridge consists of a pontic (a filler tooth) that is attached to two surrounding crowns (abutments). Once complete, this bridge structure is bonded or cemented into the mouth. Without the use of a bridge, spaces in the mouth from missing teeth can cause multiple teeth to shift, lead to malocclusion (bad bite) and/or jaw problems, and may spur periodontal (gum) disease. Dental bridges safeguard the integrity of existing teeth and help maintain a healthy, vibrant smile.
Dental Bonding

Deep Cleaning
Scaling/Root Planning is a procedure where plaque and tartar from above and below the gum line are scraped away (scaling) and rough spots on the tooth root are made smooth (planing). Smoothing the rough spots removes bacteria and provides a clean surface for the gums to reattach to the teeth. Scaling and root planing is done if Dr. Filbrandt determines that you have plaque and calculus (hardened plaque, also called tartar) under the gums that needs to be removed.

Dentures
Complete dentures are used when all the teeth have been lost in either your upper or lower arch. They allow you to smile, speak and masticate (a big word that means “chew”) your food so you maintain proper nutrition. While not the ideal restoration these days, they are necessary and will allow you to function far better than if you didn’t replace your missing teeth and had to mash up all your food.
Overdentures
Another version of a complete denture is called an OVERDENTURE. An overdenture is a complete denture that is partially supported by some remaining roots or implants. These roots or implants usually have some type of attachment that allows an insert placed in the denture to snap the overdenture in place. Overdentures are a very effective form of complete denture therapy and far more desirable than a normal complete denture.
