Dental Examination
Oral Exams are important for preventative health, generally includes cleaning, physical examination of mouth and teeth, and x-rays of the teeth.

Teeth Cleaning
A dental cleaning is a professional cleaning you receive from a dentist or dental hygienist. Most dental cleanings take approximately 45 minutes. Cleanings should be performed every six months to prevent excessive plaque buildup. Plaque left untreated can lead to unhealthy gums and tooth decay. During your routine cleaning, we will remove excess plaque and polish your teeth.
Fluoride Treatment
Fluoride treatments are mineral that helps prevent tooth decay. They can be applied in a doctor’s office in the form of a gel, foam, or varnish.
Dental Sealants
Sealants are used to fill narrow grooves in a tooth that cannot be adequately cleaned by brushing. In some cases, the tooth structure has fine grooves or pits which accumulate plaque, not because the person doesn't brush, but because they're too narrow to allow even one bristle into them. To avoid cavities developing over time, the dentist will brush on a coating that seals the grooves and pits, making it possible to brush off all the plaque and keep your teeth healthy.

Fillings
Gold fillings are custom made in a laboratory and then cemented into place. While gold fillings are often the most expensive choice, many consider it the best filling material. Gold inlays are well-tolerated by gum tissues and may last more than twenty years.
Resin Composite
Bonding involves adhering composite resin material that is matched to the color of the tooth, to the front of the tooth. This is performed to repair damage caused by decay, to alter the alignment of the tooth, close gaps between the teeth, or for other cosmetic purposes. First, the surface of the tooth is roughened in order to accept the bonding. A gel is applied so the resin will adhere to the surface of the tooth. The composite is then placed on the tooth and the bonding agent hardens with intense light. The last step is shaping and polishing to give a lustrous finish.
Veneers
Veneers are a dental procedure in which a covering is placed over the outside (visible area) of the tooth. Veneers are usually only applied to the part of the tooth that is visible when talking or smiling. The procedure can be direct or indirect.

When your dentist recommends a dental crown, it is important to follow their care instructions to keep your crown in good shape. The better care you give your crown, the longer it will last.
Bridges
Crowns and bridges are used to restore and enhance teeth that are damaged or to take the place of missing teeth. A crown (sometimes called a cap) is used to entirely cover a damaged tooth. Dental Implants
A dental implant is an ideal tooth restoration for people who are missing one or more teeth as a result of injury, periodontal disease, or any other reason. A dental implant is a metal post that is positioned into the jaw. Once in place and bone surrounding the implant has had time to heal, a replacement tooth is attached to the post. Oral Surgery
A native of Utah, Dr. Allen served an LDS mission in Campinas, Sao Paulo (Brazil) prior to graduating from Weber State University with a degree in Microbiology. He earned his Doctorate of Dental Medicine (DMD) at Boston University, graduating cum laude. He served a general practice residency at Hartford Hospital in Connecticut, where he gained significant experience in operative dentistry, oral surgery, and endodontics.
Tooth Extractions
A wisdom tooth extraction is a relatively routine procedure. The dentist will numb the area in your mouth with a local anesthesia or use IV sedation so you are asleep during the procedure.

Orthodontics
Dr. Allen was born in Salt Lake and raised in Ogden, Utah. He attended Ogden High School where he was on the debate and tennis team. When he graduated high school he then attended Weber State University where he met his wife. After Weber State University, he went to Washington and attended the University Of Washington School Of Dentistry for 4 years and graduated with Honors in 2000. He then attended the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry Department of Orthodontics. Dr. Allen graduated in 2003 with a Certificate in Orthodontics and MS in Oral Sciences. Dr. Allen has lived and had practiced in Idaho Falls and El Paso. He loves learning and applying new techniques to his approach in Orthodontics.
