In 1884, Alonzo Drake Naylor took over the blacksmith shop of the late C.H. Sincell in Oakland, Maryland. A.D. was born in Hedgesville, Virginia in 1861, and left home to take a blacksmith's job in Keyser, West Virginia in 1882. After arriving in Oakland he soon branched out into buggies, wagons & pumps, and later hardware, plumbing, heating, tools, German siding, tinware, wood ceiling and numerous other lines. When A.D. Naylor died in 1964, his business was 80 years old and he was 103 years old! Under the astute business leadership of A.D., the company became known as the “largest and most complete hardware dealer” within 50 miles. Our reputation was built on outstanding customer service and the slogan, “Naylor’s Has It And Sells It For Less”. Today, over 100 years after its founding and in the traditions and principles established by A.D., Naylor's ACE Hardware is the area's "largest and most complete hardware dealer" in 50 miles and offers the best customer service available anywhere. Naylor's began opening branch stores in 1974, 90 years after A.D. started his business in Oakland. Naylor's currently operates three hardware stores, Cub Cadet and Husqvarna dealerships, ACE Rental Place, Culligan dealership, a Plumbing, Electrical & HVAC Contracting division and a Commercial Sales division. Naylor’s Hardware stocks a full line of hardware, tools, paint and paint supplies, lawn and garden, plumbing, electrical, work & hunting clothing, boots & housewares.
