In November 2015 the U.S. Department of Justice released a memo instructing its prosecutors on how to conduct investigations and subsequent indictments of corporate white-collar crime. “ The Individual Accountability for Corporate Misconduct Policy” or Yates Memo , as it is known, directs DOJ prosecutors to focus on charging individuals, especially high-level executives and owners, with corporate criminal and/or civil misconduct. This policy refocused government policy to prosecute corporate executives in addition to companies as a whole.

Personal Injury
While Daniel was a full-time student at DePaul University College of Law, he served as a Law Clerk and Judicial Extern to the Honorable Judge Joan Powell in the Commercial Division and Judge Daniel Gillespie and Judge Susan Zwick in the Law Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County, where he drafted memoranda on motions and assisted in legal research covering a multitude of issues, including workers' compensation, personal injury, and breaches of commercial contracts. Before joining the law firm of Stone, McGuire & Siegel, P.C., Daniel worked for the Law Offices of Susan Bogart, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, where he drafted legal briefs and memoranda, and engaged in substantial discovery in federal employment law cases appearing before the Northern District of Illinois. These experiences provide Daniel with a broad knowledge of the legal field and a unique perspective necessary to succeed in the practice of law.

Tax Law
Our firm’s strategy in defending tax cases is to utilize the experience of our attorneys who include former IRS civil and criminal agents, former federal prosecutors, and former IRS criminal investigators. A thorough knowledge of the facts is essential from the very beginning of a tax case since strategic decisions that are based on the facts, as well as our experience, can determine whether many cases will be pursued by the government as criminal or a civil matter. Our ability to make the best strategic decisions both in the beginning of a matter as well as throughout the investigation, is based on our extensive knowledge of the policies and procedures of both the IRS and the Department of Justice. We work hard to resolve cases as quickly as possible, and to minimize legal expenditures. Often, we prevent criminal charges from impacting our clients by presenting defenses on their behalf that are based on an in-depth interpretation of the facts and the law. This creativity has enabled us to achieve the best possible outcome for our clients at the audit, criminal, and appellate levels of the IRS.
