Dental Examination
The cost of treatment depends on each person’s needs and treatment choices. After a comprehensive exam, we will review your diagnosis and discuss options for treatment. X-rays
The periodontist examines the gums, evaluates for any gum line recession, assesses how the teeth fit together when biting, and checks the teeth to see if any are loose. The periodontist will also take a small measuring instrument called a probe and place it between the teeth and gums to determine the depth of those spaces, known as periodontal pockets (“probing depths”); this helps him or her to assess the health of the gums and underlying bone. Dental X-rays are also taken in order to observe the health of the bone below the gum line.

Teeth Cleaning
The first line of defense against gum disease is a unique type of cleaning called tissue conditioning. In this procedure, an ultrasonic cleaning device is used to remove plaque and tartar from your teeth where regular cleaning devices can’t reach: under the gum line, on the tooth, and around the root.

Crowns
If you feel your smile is "gummy" or if you think your teeth are too small, crown lengthening may be right for you. Crown lengthening is a procedure performed by your periodontist to reshape the gum line to improve the aesthetics of your smile by exposing more of your teeth.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
Flap Surgery
During pocket reduction procedures (also known as “flap surgery”), we fold back the gum tissue and remove the bacteria hiding underneath, as well as the hardened plaque and tartar that have collected. We may also remove any tissue that is too damaged to survive. We then sew the healthy tissue back into place. Now that the tooth and root are free of bacteria, plaque, and tartar, and the pockets have been reduced, the gums can reattach to the teeth.
Osseous Surgery
Osseous surgery, also known as pocket depth reduction, is a surgical procedure intended to restore your gums to a healthier, more natural state. If our office has recommended osseous surgery, it’s because you have pockets that are too deep to clean with daily at-home oral hygiene and a professional care routine.
Tooth Extractions
Tooth Extraction with Bone Grafting/Augmentation: In an area where a tooth requires removal/extraction and a dental implant is considered or anticipated, it may be preferable to perform bone grafting at the same time as tooth removal. This is especially true for teeth with considerable disease and bone loss, whether from a tooth or endodontic infection, advanced periodontal disease, a vertical root fracture, or in an area where the tooth lies close to anatomic structures such as the sinus or nerves. Extraction with bone building can be beneficial to make a future implant more feasible. In this process, a tooth is carefully removed, any and all diseased tissue is removed, small particles of bone are placed in the area of the previous tooth root(s), and the area is covered by a barrier membrane. The area is allowed to heal three to six months prior to 3-dimensional imaging and future implants.
Ridge Augmentation
A common use of bone grafting is for ridge augmentation. Ridge augmentation can recapture the natural contour of your gums and jaw after the loss of a tooth as a result of trauma, congenital anomalies, infection, or periodontal disease.
Bone Grafting
When a tooth needs to be removed due to infection, it is not uncommon to have bone loss around the infected tooth. In these cases, various types of bone grafting can be done at the same time the tooth is removed to facilitate the placement of a dental implant at a later date.
