American Museum of Natural History Library, located in New York City, is a part of the American Museum of Natural History. It is a nonprofit research institution that serves and supports the works of the museum s scientific staff. The library also serves scholars in natural history and members of the general public. Its research collection includes more than 450,000 volumes of books, electronic resources and microform materials on various subject areas, including anthropology, astronomy, geology, paleontology, zoology, exploration and travel, history of science and museology. In addition to textual material, it provides a large photograph collection, lantern slides, a film collection, paintings and sculptures. The library offers a special collection that consists of archival material related to the history of the museum, scientific expeditions and research, museum exhibitions, education and general administrative history.
