Fibromyalgia
Trigger Point Injections are used to treat extremely painful areas of several muscle groups, especially those in the arms, legs, lower back, and neck. In addition, TPI can be used to treat fibromyalgia and tension headaches, and is also used to alleviate myofascial pain syndrome (chronic pain involving tissue that surrounds muscle) that does not respond to other treatments. Usually, a brief course of treatment will result in sustained relief. Injections are given in a doctor’s office and usually take just a few minutes. Several sites may be injected in one visit.
Emergency Care
When you get emergency care or are treated by an out-of-network provider at an in-network hospital or ambulatory surgical center, you are protected from balance billing. In these cases, you shouldn’t be charged more than your plan’s copayments, coinsurance and/or deductible.

Dr. Denis Ostrovskiy received his medical training at the Saint Petersburg State Medical Academy, in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and completed residencies in infectious diseases and neurology. Moving to the University of Illinois, he spent several years in basic research before completing his residency in neurology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He held the position of Chief Resident during his last year of training, where he received The Excellence in Teaching Award. He then completed his fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, Ohio in Electromyography (EMG), Neuromuscular Diseases and Clinical Neurophysiology where he was elected to the pretigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society from the Medical College of Wisconsin. He was awarded the David I.M. Fine Award for Excellence in Post-Graduate Training.

Dr. Haddad obtained her Doctor of Medicine from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, ME in 2006. She then completed her Internal Medicine Internship at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester, MA in 2007.

Dr. Haddad completed a B.S. in Neuroscience at Lehigh University in 2000, and furthered her interest in neurology at the Syracuse University Institute for Sensory Research, in the Department of Bioengineering and Neuroscience where she received a Masters in Science Degree in Neuroscience in 2001. Prior to entering medical training, she went on to accomplish a Certificate in Public Health at the Harvard University Extension School in Cambridge, MA in 2002.

Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple sclerosis has been a key focus for Dr. DeAngelis. Along with Dr. Richard Blanck, she leads the multiple sclerosis treatment program at Neurological Associates of Long Island (NALI). She has been published in several medical journals and co-authored two leading handbooks on neuroimmunology with colleagues from the Mount Sinai MS Center. She has served as Principal Investigator on numerous MS clinical research trials and spearheaded the development of NALI’s MS clinical trials program.
Epilepsy
The electroencephalograph (EEG) is the primary test used to diagnose seizures and epilepsy. The EEG detects and records the electrical activity in the brain through the use of electrodes. Electrodes are small metal discs with thin wires that run to a machine. During an EEG 18 electrodes are pasted to the scalp with special glue that washes out easily. These electrodes are able to detect the electrical activity within the brain and record it on a computer monitor or paper.

Stress Management
One of the more recent trends in MS care has been a stronger integration of wellness into the concept of disease modification. Recognizing the neuroprotective impact of factors such as nutrition, exercise, stress management and sleep hygiene is exciting and long overdue. For example, increasing research shedding light on the role of the gut microbiome and its impact on MS is one of many frontiers providing insight in this area. MS specialists and their multidisciplinary teams must take time to identify the personal, psychosocial factors which create barriers to implementing wellness measures successfully. Identifying these obstacles is the first step towards educating MS patients on how to make lifestyle changes that can improve their disease course in addition to taking their medication.

Psychiatry
Dr. Ellen Krimitsos Haddad practices General Neurology and has completed subspecialty training in Clinical Neurophysiology, with a focus on EEG. She is certified by the Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Ultrasound
The carotid (neck vessels) and transcranial (through the skull) Doppler ultrasound test uses reflected sound waves to measure how blood is flowing through the blood vessels in the brain. The test does not require entering the body (it is noninvasive) and the two tests are often conducted at the same time. The test usually takes from 30 to 45 minutes, and patients may go back to your normal activities after the test.
MRI
Neurological Associates of Long Island, PC / Physicians’ Open MRI, offers two onsite MRI machines. The Hitachi Oasis High-Field Open Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging system offers high resolution imaging in an open form magnet permitting imaging for those patients sensitive to closed environments. Hitachi has developed the most powerful open MRI in the world that provides the highest quality images to patients who cannot tolerate conventional closed MRIs. We are the first and only group on Long Island and the Tri-State area to have this kind of magnetic resonance imaging.

MRA/MRV is a type of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan that uses a magnetic field and pulses of radio wave energy to provide pictures of blood vessels inside the body. In many cases MRA/MRV can provide information that can’t be obtained from an X-ray, ultrasound, or computed tomography (CT) scan.

Plastic Surgeons

Botox
Botulinum toxin type A (Botox) and botulinum toxin B (Myobloc) are therapeutic muscle-relaxing agents that cause weakening of overactive muscles. These treatments work at the site of the nerves where they are injected, and are associated with few side effects. Botulinum toxin is injected into the muscle with a very fine needle. Some patients report minor or temporary discomfort from the treatment, which typically is needed no more than four times a year. Each person will experience a different level of relief and therapeutic benefit.
