Downtown Dental

I am not one who typically complains, but I felt the need to warn others about Downtown Dental. The office is very clean and the staff is helpful and nice. The problem I had was purely monetary. When filling out new patient paperwork, I read and was fully aware that estimates for treatment plans can change after insurance receives the bill. But, I had no idea and was given no warning that the difference could be substantial. I went in for a teeth cleaning and was told I had a cavity. They had already printed out how much it would cost for a filling (estimated $44), so I made an appointment. After the filling, I paid the $44. A couple of weeks later, I received a bill for $230.84. I called Downtown Dental thinking this must have been a mistake. It wasn't. My estimate was $44, but the amount I actually owed was $230.84 (on top of the $44 I had already paid). I understand how estimates work, but this is a large gap. A gap I can't afford. If I had known this was even a possibility, I wouldn't have gone ahead with the treatment. Insurance told me the cost was because I was given a white filling. That is something else that was never explained to me. Once again, the office is nice, parking is convenient and the employees are very friendly, but I warn everyone to exercise caution when considering taking their business to Downtown Dental. Especially, if you don't enjoy receiving surprise bills in the mail. It goes without saying that I will be finding a new dentist for my next cleaning.
