CoolSculpting is not intended as a weight-reduction program for obese individuals. The best candidates for the CoolSculpting procedure are people near their ideal body weight who eat well and exercise regularly yet have pockets of fat that are unresponsive. It is appropriate for those who are seeking spot reduction for specific areas of fat but are not interested in a surgical procedure.
Primary Care
Aspirin, aspirin-containing compounds, and ibuprofen should not be taken ten days prior to surgery. Any exceptions will be discussed prior to the surgery at your consultation. If you are taking an anticoagulant i.e.: Plavix® or Coumadin®, discontinuing may be recommended and will be cleared with your primary care physician. Please advise us if you are taking Vitamin E or any herbal supplements. Other important issues such as medical problems, medications, allergies and prophylactic antibiotics will be discussed during consultation prior to surgery. If your surgical site is on the face, we recommend you refrain from wearing a garment that will be pulled over your head. Loose fitting or button-down garments will be most comfortable.

Kelly Christman is a board certified Physician Assistant. She was awarded Diplomate status in 2011, the highest honor available as an experienced Dermatologic Physician Assistant by the Society of Dermatologic Physician Assistants, and is recognized by the American Academy of Dermatology. She received her BS in Biology from SUNY Stony Brook in 1998 and her PA degree at SUNY Health Sciences Center at Stony Brook in 2001. She has been practicing dermatology for greater than ten years and prior to transitioning into Dermatology, she practiced internal medicine.

Mental Health
Psoriasis can be treated successfully with remission lasting for months or years. Treatment depends on the type, severity and location of psoriasis, the patient's age, medical history, lifestyle, and the effect the disease has on the patient's general mental health. Significant advancements have been made in the treatment and understanding of psoriasis. Treatments include topical medications, phototherapy, photochemotherapy (PUVA), and oral or injectable medication (for severe symptoms).

Ultrasound
During the Ultherapy procedure, while using ultrasound, an applicator will be placed on the skin to allow your provider to visualize the deep layers of skin and muscle. Focused ultrasound energy will then be delivered to that treatment area. This energy initiates the body’s natural response to stimulate the growth of fresh, new collagen and strengthen weak collagen.
Chemotherapy
In addition to destroying cancer cells by forcing their interaction with oxygen, there is evidence that photodynamic therapy is able to damage the blood vessels within tumors and to activate the patient's immune system to attack malignant cells. Several photodynamic therapy treatments may be required and this variety of therapy may be used alone or in combination with other treatments for cancer, such as surgery, radiation therapy or chemotherapy.

During Mohs surgery and the repair of the wound, we use the same local anesthetic that was used during the initial biopsy. Therefore, in most cases, you will be able to eat lightly before surgery as well as during the day while you are waiting.

Photodynamic therapy, or PDT, is a three-step treatment used to treat mild or serious conditions of the skin through the use of a photo-sensitizing medication and a light source to activate it. PDT destroys abnormal cells that cause actinic keratosis, a precancerous condition or to treat certain forms of skin cancer. It may also be used to minimize pores and reduce oil glands in order to treat acne and rosacea, and is sometimes helpful in minimizing the appearance of scar tissue as well.

I have been a licensed esthetician since 2008, I am also a certified ultherapist and laser specialist. I decided to go into the field of esthetics because for years I struggled with acne and as a teenager it caused me to have very low self-esteem.
