Kim has been in pediatrics at Samaritan for many years, and children enjoy seeing her friendly, familiar face when they come through the door. Primary Care
When you are admitted to Samaritan Hospital, your primary care physician may ask the hospitalist to care for you during your stay. Once you have been admitted under the care of one of our hospitalists, he or she will be in charge of your care and will see you daily. Your primary care physician will be notified that you have been admitted, and the hospitalist will work together with your physician to ensure that you obtain the best care possible. The hospitalist will be in charge of your daily visits to access and treat your medical condition, coordinating your care with other hospital services (x-ray, lab, pharmacy, etc.) and answering your questions.
Family Practice
Together they work closely with Family Medicine physicians and providers to offer integrated care and coordinate treatments and care plans for patients of all ages, that may include counseling or medication. They know how important it is to listen and care for patients with empathy and support, and the willingness to go the extra mile.
Emergency Care
Some conditions require a physical examination. If your provider determines that an in-person visit is necessary, you may be asked to make an in-clinic appointment or to visit Urgent Care at Samaritan Clinic on Patton or Samaritan Clinic on Pioneer. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, go to the nearest emergency department or call 9-1-1.

Telemedicine lets you receive care even if you’re not physically coming into the clinic. Most visits—from behavioral health and well-child exams, to chronic disease management and medication refills—can all be done using private, secure video calls directly with your provider through an application called Zoom. Televisits—appointments conducted by telephone—are also available if you do not have access to the internet or to a device that allows video calls.

The Women’s Imaging Center offers comprehensive breast health services including Genius 3D mammography, breast MRI, and ultrasound—the latest technology available in the battle against breast cancer. This 3D mammography technology produces sharper, enhanced images at multiple angles—allowing our doctors to detect and identify possible cancers earlier. The 3D technology also allows our doctors to perform specialized biopsies—making Samaritan the only facility within a 70-mile radius to offer this full array of breast-imaging services.
MRI
Samaritan Healthcare’s new, state-of-the-art, GE Signa Artist 1.5 Tesla MRI—the first of its kind in Washington State—features sophisticated MRI technology that produces sharper images for more-accurate results.
Radiology
While much of the anesthesia delivered by providers occurs in the operating and procedure suites where surgeries and procedures are typically performed, they also provide anesthesia-related services elsewhere in the hospital. Their services are needed in the Intensive Care Unit, the Emergency Department, and in the Mother-Baby Unit where labor epidural anesthesia and Cesarean deliveries are performed. Anesthesia may also be consulted to provide acute, non-surgical pain relief—such as rib fractures—for patients in the hospital. Another area of the hospital where anesthesia is used is in the Radiology Department where patients may require sedation for radiology-related procedures or for reducing anxiety.
X-Rays
Nuclear Medicine
All exams, with the exception of screening mammograms require an order from your healthcare provider. Once you have your order, call our scheduling desk at 509.793.9651 to schedule an exam. Exams like fluoroscopy, CTs, ultrasounds, MRIs, nuclear medicine, echocardiograms, and diagnostic mammography must be scheduled in advance. Scheduled exams are typically between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday—except ultrasound, which is scheduled until 8 p.m., and also has scheduled weekend slots. There is no need to schedule general x-rays.
Mammography
The Women’s Imaging Center, located inside Samaritan Hospital, provides 3D digital mammography and osteoporosis DEXA scanning. These exams must be scheduled in advance. Once scheduled, go to the admitting area in the main hospital lobby to sign in. Our mammography technologist will meet you there and escort you to the Women’s Imaging Center for your exam. We are open Monday through Friday with some evening and Saturday appointments available.

Our full-time, on-staff surgeons in our General Surgery department specialize in diagnosing and surgically treating a wide range of medical conditions that require scheduled, urgent, or emergency surgery.
Arthroscopy
Whether your orthopaedic surgery is planned or unexpected, know that our surgical team is ready to care for you. Dr. Leo Chough is our on-staff orthopaedic surgeon and fellowship-trained sports medicine specialist. He has a wealth of surgical expertise in arthroscopy and joint replacement procedures, which allows patients to gain mobility and recover faster with less pain along the way. Dr. Chough is highly skilled in joint replacement surgery—anterior hip replacement, knee replacement, and reverse and regular shoulder replacement—as well as arthroscopic procedures, such as rotator cuff repair, ACL reconstruction/revision, and more.

We also have a state-of-the-art HANA surgical table to position the patient’s body for orthopaedic surgery, such as an anterior hip replacement, which allows the surgeon to replace the hip through a single, short incision without detaching the muscle from the pelvis or femur. Dr. Chough has performed the anterior hip replacement since 2003 and served as a regional live instructor for other surgeons wanting to learn the technique. His expertise and experience in these procedures utilize muscle-sparing surgical techniques—leading to more rapid recoveries for our orthopaedic surgery patients.

Brett DeGooyer, DO, is our sports medicine doctor who joins Dr. Leo Chough, orthopaedic surgeon, on Samaritan Healthcare’s orthopaedic care team. Whether an injury or medical concern occurs in the workplace or the home, participating in recreation, or as an athlete with a sports injury, Dr. DeGooyer’s active approach to healing can help and offers a wide range of care for an injury that does not require surgery. He also provides sports physicals for injury prevention.

The ICU works closely with other members of the healthcare team, including physical therapy, respiratory therapy, care management, and dietary planners to provide care to our patients.

General Podiatry
Our Pain Management Clinic works with a patient’s primary care physician, as well as specialists in Sports Medicine, Podiatry, Orthopaedics, and the Therapy department.
