Dental Examination
Maintaining oral health includes good home care and regular visits to our office for preventive care, which includes oral examinations and cleanings. Even with excellent care, however, teeth and gums can be susceptible to disease, infection, cavities, cracks, or other forms of damage.

Teeth Cleaning
A dental cleaning, also known as an oral prophylaxis, is the removal of dental plaque and tartar (calculus) from the teeth. Specialized instruments are used to gently remove these deposits without harming the teeth. First, an ultrasonic device that emits vibrations and is cooled by water is used to loosen larger pieces of tartar. Next, hand tools are used to manually remove smaller deposits and smooth the tooth surfaces. Once all the tooth surfaces have been cleaned of tartar and plaque, the teeth are polished.

Crowns
Call our office as soon as possible for an emergency appointment. Hold the tooth by the crown (don’t touch the root, as this can make it more difficult for the gums to reattach) and rinse it gently with water to remove any debris. Try to push the tooth back into the socket and then bite down on a piece of sterile gauze to hold it in place until your appointment. If you cannot do this, place the tooth in a small container of milk or saliva and bring it with you to our office.

Root Canal Treatment
Our primary goal is to save your natural teeth whenever possible. Our practice specializes in Endodontics, commonly referred to as root canal therapy. Endodontics is the treatment of the pulp and surrounding tissues of a tooth. When root canal therapy is performed the pulp chamber of the tooth is removed and then filled with a suitable filling material. Root canals are most often necessary when decay has reached the nerve of the tooth or the tooth has become infected. People have anywhere from 1 to 4 canals in a tooth. Extra canals may branch out and are called “accessory canals.” The number of canals and anatomy of a tooth can vary. The word “endo” comes from the Greek language and means “inside” or within. Endodontists work with the “inside” of a tooth.

Dr. David Fry has been practicing dentistry in Montgomery since August 1979. He is the founder of SmileMakers, Drs. Fry, Barganier and Associates. His dental training was at UAB School of Dentistry and upon graduation he worked in the United States Air Force for three years. While he was stationed in Texas he received additional training in IV Sedation, Oral Surgery Techniques, and Root Canal Therapy.

Invisalign Orthodontics
Invisalign is under your control. Your dentist will place the attachments on your teeth and help you put in the first aligner. Every two weeks or as directed, you will put in a new aligner at home. Since ClearCorrect is removable, if you want to eat sticky candy or popcorn, you can simply pop out the aligner, have a snack, and then brush your teeth and put the aligner back in. Oral hygiene is also far easier, since you can simply remove the aligner to brush and floss as normal.
