Overall

I 1st went here 2 years ago & saw Dr. Elisha Poynter. She has since opened her own office & I followed her there for 1 visit, but decided it was too far & wanted to return to Walton Family Med. I called to make an appointment & they were very rude to me & told me that I was not welcome back since I had my records transferred elsewhere. When I had my records transferred they never mentioned that was their policy. Poor business practices & poor customer service.

Overall

I have been a patient of Walton Family Medical for years. I received a bill in the mail recently for two office visits. The first visit was for a cold and they charged me $125 for the office visit. I saw the nurse practitioner and had a strep test; that was an additional $45. The second visit was a few days later for pink eye. I was given no prescriptions and spent no more than 5 minutes with the same nurse practitioner, however this time they charged me $185 for the office visit. When I called to question 1. Why an office visit was so expensive, and 2. Why I was charged $60 more for the second visit than the first, I was told that it was based off a computerized system. Tracy, the billing supervisor, was extremely rude to both myself and my husband on the phone. We were told there is no way you can predict how much the office visit will be prior to the visit. Basically, they can charge you whatever they want without your knowledge. I was told the time you are with the doctor and the different things the doctor checks determines the price. Also, the doctors are paid on commission, so it is in their best interest to keep you in the office longer and look in every crevice while you are there. I did like the nurse practitioner, and the doctors are very nice, but I feel as a middle class teacher I cannot afford this doctors office due to the unpredictability of the prices. Morally, I think it is just wrong to charge $125-$185 for a 5 minute conversation. I don't think anyone's time is worth that much.
