Dental Examination
Your initial appointment will last approximately one hour. Our dentist will perform a comprehensive exam, update any x-rays, perio charting, and intra oral photos for your records, which help in diagnosing tooth decay, periodontal problems, jaw problems and any signs of oral cancer.

Teeth Cleaning
Fluoride Treatment
Includes: cleaning and digital x-rays (which has 90% less radiation than traditional x-rays). Sealant and fluoride treatment is also a part of our recommended preventative care treatments.
Dental Sealants
Dental sealants are a plastic coating that is painted on the grooved chewing surfaces of the back teeth. They can keep cavities from forming and may even stop early stages of decay from becoming a full-blown cavity.
Space Maintainers
Another benefit of space maintainers are that they can potentially help lessen the need of possible orthodontic treatment.

Restorative

Fillings
The second type of discomfort is a very sharp shock that appears only when your teeth touch. This is called galvanic shock. It is caused by two metals (one in the newly filled tooth and one in the tooth it's touching) producing an electric current in your mouth. This would happen, for example, if you had a new amalgam filling in a bottom tooth and had a gold crown in the tooth above it.
Resin Composite
Composite Resins are matched to be the same color as your teeth and therefore used where a natural appearance is desired. The ingredients are placed directly into the cavity, where they harden. Composites may not be the ideal material for large fillings as they may chip or wear over time. They can also become stained from coffee, tea or tobacco, and do not last as long as other types of fillings, generally a few years.
Veneers
V Dental Center offers a variety of different cosmetic services: including teeth whitening, white fillings, veneers, and porcelain bridges. Other services offered include: root canals, dental implants, crowns, dentures/partial dentures, extractions, and hospital dentistry with general anesthesia. In addition to hospital dentistry, sedation like Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) is available to accommodate patients and provide addition comfort.
Crowns
A dental crown (cap) is a tooth-shaped cover that is permanently placed over a damaged tooth to cover the entire visible tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and improve it's appearance.
Bridges
A dental bridge fills the space where a tooth or teeth are missing. The dental bridge will improve the aesthetics of your smile, but more importantly, it will hold the surrounding teeth in place, which in turn makes the daily tasks of eating or talking much easier to manage.

Endodontics

Pulpotomy
Also known as a stainless steel crown (SSC), is an extremely durable restoration with several clear-cut indications for use in primary teeth (baby teeth) including: following a pulpotomy/pulpectomy; for teeth with developmental defects or large carious lesions involving multiple surfaces where an amalgam is likely to fail; and for fractured teeth. In other situations, its use is less clear cut, and carries risk factors, restoration longevity and cost effectiveness are considerations in decisions to use the SSC. SSC is recommended for children with extensive decay, large lesions or multiple surface lesions in primary molars.
Root Canal Treatment
A root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed or becomes infected. Without treatment, the tissue surrounding the tooth will become infected and abscesses may form. This may lead to the loss of the infected tooth.

Periodontics

Deep Cleaning
Often referred to as a Scaling & Root Planing (SRP) or a Deep Cleaning. SRP is the most effective way to treat gum disease. During SRP, the dentist cleans between the gums and teeth, down to the root. Your dentist may need to use a local anesthetic to numb the gums and the roots of your teeth while the procedure is performed. It is important that individuals with gum (periodontal) disease have this procedure done.

Prosthodontics

Dentures
You can reduce the risk of wear and tear of your existing healthy teeth by using a occlusal guard (AKA night guard). a clear, thin removable device, a night guard is custom made to fit over your upper or lower teeth as you sleep, to prevent teeth grinding. In addition to relieving head, neck, jaw joint, and shoulder pain, it will protect your existing teeth and your dental restorations. It is highly recommended for those who have crowns, bridges, implants, and dentures, to offset the effects of this often-subconscious habit that occurs during sleep.

Implants

Dental Implants
If you have titanium implants, composite or porcelain restorations, or areas of demineralization on your teeth, be sure to let us know before your treatment. There may be special tips that are suitable for use in these circumstances. Also, individuals with cardiac pacemakers, hypersensitive teeth, or pregnant should always alert us beforehand so precautions can be taken.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
Dr. Muon Vy, DDS, earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Minnesota's School of Dentistry in 1993. She has continued to hone her skills in many different fields of dentistry such as: Pediatrics, Endodontics, Periodontics, Implants, Cosmetics, and Oral Surgery. Dr. Vy also has a special interest in Children Dentistry. Dr. Vy is one of the select few general dentists in Minnesota to obtain hospital privileges. Dr. Vy worked with Minneapolis Public Health (MPH) on and off for 17 years where she was also involved as an executive board member.
Tooth Extractions
In a simple extraction, the dentist loosens the tooth with an instrument called an elevator. Then the dentist uses an instrument called a forceps to remove the tooth.
