Midland 2 BrownwoodI called Debbie and set up a pick up from a local furniture store to be delivered to our home at Lake Brownwood. She set up a time which we have to change and she had no problem with our rescheduling. The men that did the move were professional, courteous and willing to place our furniture wherever we chose. They stayed until after dark so we could have our beds set up for the night. I would highly recommend these movers and will use them again in a heartbeat.
I contacted Debbie Johnson after being rescheduled for a later date by another company ( Willis Permian Movers ) she was able to squeeze us in her busy schedule with very little notice, and like trish said they were outstanding, at half the price that other company quoted me, her crew was respectful, kind, courteous, and worked their butts off (on a very hot day I might add) to get our belongings packed up, moved and unpacked as quickly as possible to minimize our cost. We had Abbott Moving Co move us in mid July 2013 to Ft Worth and they were outstanding! They gave us a very reasonable quote which was way below fellow movers. There service was excellent, the 3 men knew their job and did it very carefully and professionally. I appreciated that they were very careful on how they loaded. We did most of the packing ourselves but they provided boxes and paper delivered to the door. The girls at the office were always professional and courteous. We were very pleased with Abbott and would highly recommend them to everyone.
FAILED TO SHOW: 10+ HOURS LATE, THEN REFUSED TO MOVE US. Cost us a night in a hotel, then acted like they were doing us a favor moving us the next day (late again), then refused to reimburse us for our out-of-pocket costs, were rude and very unprofessional. Office manager Debbie refused to let us talk with actual management, told us it was OUR FAULT the move was canceled on day one!! That WE erred in underestimating how long the move would take--seemed to forget who was the professional moving company and who the customer. Then sent harrassing voice mails about things "getting ugly" if we didn't pay the full amount and threatened us with filing "criminal charges with the DA" over a stop payment without even trying to work it out with us before hand, which is actually required by the DA's office, in writing and over time, before anything can be filed. Debbie talked over me, hung up on me more than once, and was INCREDIBLY RUDE after standing us up on our move day and costing us more than $200 in hotel costs and bank fees. DO NOT USE.

In fact, even if you're moving within the same state but you have to go through another state or country first, it's likely considered an interstate move, rather than a local one. That's because the movers are technically transferring items between state lines, which means they'll be responsible for having the correct licensing and insurance in place.
Long-distance moves are much more complicated to plan, typically requiring you to pay numerous extra expenses for everything from shipping items to renting storage space.

For both local and long-distance moving companies, AMSA is another good place to check out a company's legitimacy. Moving companies aren't required to be an AMSA member, but the ones that are have committed to the association's rules and regulations, which protect both the companies and the consumers hiring them. If a company isn't an AMSA member, that doesn't mean it isn't reputable, but an AMSA membership is a clear indication of legitimacy.
