Located in Middletown, N.Y., the Department of Public Works regulates and inspects construction projects in and around Middletown. It is a part of the city s municipal departments. The department s responsibilities include maintaining city streets and performing sanitation pickups. Its duties include snow plowing, paving and the maintenance of traffic lights. The Department of Public Works also runs day-to-day water and sewer treatment plant operations. Additionally, it operates and maintains more than 60 miles of wastewater sewer lines and over 1,000 catch basins and manholes within the city and neighboring sections in Town of Wallkill, Wawayanda and Mount Hope. The department is comprised of commissioners, deputies and teams of building, code enforcement, plumbing, housing and fire inspectors. The commissioner's office oversees and administers the design and construction of various city capital projects and is responsible for the maintenance of city hall, fire stations, courts and police headquarters.
