Hibiscus Women's Center is accepting new patients for both gynecology and obstetrics. If you recently moved to Brevard County, your current provider no longer sees patients, or need to establish we are here to help. With three physicians and six midwives we are a unique group of all woman providers. We are open Monday-Thursday 8am to 5pm and 8am to noon on Friday. It can be frustrating to get time off work for doctors’ appointments and with that in mind we are open Wednesday evenings from 5pm to 8pm. We are excited to open a second location in Viera, FL later this summer. We care deeply about our patients and giving them a wonderful experience at Hibiscus Women’s Center. Ingrid Simonson joined Hibiscus Women’s Center in 2021 after graduating with her MSN from University of Cincinnati’s Midwifery program. Ingrid brings several years of experience in high risk obstetrics at AdventHealth Orlando, and is passionate about providing compassionate, woman-centered care. Ingrid believes that women should be equal participants in their healthcare decisions, and that her role as a provider is to offer advise and recommendations while respecting the autonomy of her patient.

Gynecologic surgery is often used as a last resort when other noninvasive treatments are not effective in relieving symptoms. Surgery may be used to treat cancer, endometriosis, fibroids, uterine prolapse, and excessive bleeding.

Our Certified Nurse Midwives and physicians function as a team to manage prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care in a way that maximizes both continuity-of-care and safety. After review of each individual’s history and physical, the physicians develop a “plan of care” that includes management of any known complications. Weekly provider meetings are held to review the progress of high-risk patients and all patients approaching term. Physicians participate in labor and delivery as medically indicated.

One of the most important aspects of a well-woman visit is a comprehensive history. This history includes a review of current symptoms, medications, allergies, and past medical, surgical, family, social, and gynecologic history, including reproductive, sexual, and mental health. Taking a comprehensive history will indicate if certain components of the physical examination, including breast or pelvic examination, are needed at that visit. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends that pelvic and breast examinations be performed when indicated by medical history or symptoms. Other items that should be addressed at well-woman visits throughout the lifespan, include bone health, vulvovaginal symptoms, and sexual health.

Orthopedics
Katie is relocating to Florida from the mountains of West Virginia. She received her BSN from Marshall University in 2010. She started her nursing career in Kentucky, where she worked on a surgical orthopedics unit, however she knew from a young age she wanted to eventually become a labor and delivery nurse. After a year of medical-surgical nursing, she started working on an Obstetrics unit in her home state, where she completely fell in love with labor and delivery and caring for mothers, babies, and families during one of the most precious and special times one can experience in life. As her love and experience in the field grew, she taught childbirth education, served as charge nurse, and sought out opportunities to grow her knowledge within the field. She also worked as a travel nurse for a short time gathering unique experiences in Texas and North Carolina. Part of growing her knowledge base was deciding to further her education to become a nurse midwife.
Robotic Surgery
Dr. Jennifer Escobar has been serving the Melbourne area at Hibiscus Women's Center since 2017. Originally from Miami, Dr. Escobar graduated from the University of South Florida, College of Medicine where she was inducted as a member of the Barnes & Behnke Chapter of Gold Humanism Honor Society, received the Robert G. Nelson Award for excellence in the specialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology and served as Class President. She completed her residency at Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies in Orlando where she was honored as Chief Resident. While at Winnie Palmer, she gained extensive training in minimally invasive surgical techniques, including Robotic Surgery using the da Vinci Surgical System. She moved to the Melbourne area to be with her husband Dr. Michael Diaz.
Hysterectomy
If you are experiencing symptoms that impact your quality of life know there are treatment options available. The first line of treatment is hormone replacement therapy (HRT) which includes estrogen and, if you still have your uterus, progesterone. If you have had a hysterectomy you can be treated with estrogen alone to help relieve your symptoms. Another line of treatment is a group of antidepressants known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI). These medications are most helpful in the treatment of hot flashes, night sweats, and mood changes. There are also a variety of localized vaginal treatments to help with vaginal dryness and relieve painful intercourse.
Endometrial Ablation
Dr. Escobar and Dr. Elhusein have considerable experience in surgical evaluation and management of gynecologic conditions and offer minimally invasive procedures in office including diagnostic hysteroscopy, LEEP, endometrial ablation, and hysteroscopic resection of fibroids and polyps. They are also both expert Robotically trained surgeons for those procedures that need to be done in the hospital.
