Extra Space Storage

I'm giving them 1 star only because 0 is not an option. Do not use this facility unless you don't mind having your rates increase dramatically and quickly and if you're OK with sub-par security. We rented a storage unit with them 2 years ago, and, in the past 2 years, they raised our monthly rate 5 times, from around $300/month to over $400/month for a 10 x 15 climate controlled unit. This equates to a 31% increase in under two years. The last increase occurred at the same time that the facility notified us (on the day it happened) that the security gate was being removed to allow access for construction vehicles. Knowing that, once someone gained access to the property, it was simple to also gain access to the inside of the building (just wait in a vehicle until another tenant raises one of the loading doors, then walk right in-I've done this unintentionally several times over the last 2 years), I asked to speak to the property manager to address my security concerns. When he did not return my call, I went to the office to convey in person my concerns about property security and also my displeasure that my rates were once again going up at the same time that security was being compromised. Not only did the manager, Rob, totally dismiss my concerns, he was rude and unprofessional.

The hallways and property are poorly lit, and the "security" cameras are a joke. Now that the gates are down, anyone can access the building, and there are plenty of hiding spaces inside. Once your unit is open, there's no one around to monitor the safety of either your person or your property. When I was conveying this to one of the office employees, another customer who was also in the office agreed that the place was "creepy" and expressed concern that the gates were down as well. Given this company's exorbitant rate increases (classic bait and switch-bringing in customers at a reasonable rate, then repeatedly raising the rent once the customers have moved all of their belongings) , the poor security, and boorish staff, I strongly urge you to look elsewhere to address your storage needs.
