Dr. Topilow is a graduate of Bayonne High School, Lafayette College, and New York Medical College. His internship, medical residency training, and fellowship training in hematology and oncology were all at Flower Fifth Avenue and Metropolitan Hospitals in New York City. After two years in the army as Major Topilow, he entered practice in hematology and medical oncology at Jersey Shore Medical Center (now Jersey Shore University Medical Center, JSUMC) and Brick Hospital (now Ocean Medical Center, OMC). At JSUMC and OMC, he is a senior attending physician. He holds the position of Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine from the Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine in New Brunswick, and has been active in teaching medical students from the school. He currently serves as director of the section of Hematology and Medical Oncology at JSUMC, director of the Transfusion Committees at JSUMC and OMC, director of the Cancer Committee at JSUMC, director of the Cancer Registry at JSUMC, and director of the Axelrod Research Section at JSUMC. Through the Axelrod Research Section, he runs a summer internship program for pre-medical students from Monmouth University and other undergraduate colleges. He is the author of 19 medical articles, 17 essays, 17 abstracts and 19 slide or poster presentations. Dr. Topilow is board certified in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. In 2009, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from JSUMC for exemplary leadership and contribution to medical education, clinical excellence, and high ethical standards. In 2004 he was given the Service to Mankind Award, presented by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of New Jersey for exceptional contribution towards the fight against blood cancers. In 2000, he was inducted into the Bayonne High School Hall of Fame.
