Arthritis
Several types of tear abnormalities can cause dry eye. Eye care professionals can perform tests to assess the quantity and quality of tears before recommending appropriate treatment. Some things that can cause the eyes to become dry include: aging, heating and air-conditioning, wind, smoke, dry weather, allergies, certain medications, eyelid problems, injuries to the eyes, or diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis.
Primary Care
Dr. Dana Conway received a B.S. in Chemistry from Indiana State University before graduating from Indiana University School of Optometry in Bloomington, Indiana. Dr. Conway joined the Eye Associates team in 2014 and loves to practice primary care optometry. This includes prescribing glasses and contacts, treating ocular disease, and managing cataract patients before and after surgery. Dr. Conway also helps patients decide if they are a candidate for refractive surgery such as LASIK. Dr. Conway is a member of the Indiana optometric Association and the American optometric Association. When she is not seeing patients, she is busy spending time with her husband and four children.
Family Practice
Dr. Curtis Jordan received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana University and his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine. After completing an internship at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, he also completed a residency in Family Practice and was Chief Resident. Dr. Jordan completed residency training in Ophthalmology at Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit, MI, before joining Dr. Black’s Eye Associates in 1995.
Infectious Diseases
Dr. Neamtu graduated from the Speed School of Engineering at the University of Louisville and then went on to receive his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Kentucky. Dr. Neamtu completed his residency in ophthalmology at the State University of New York at Buffalo, and then completed a two-year medical and surgical vitreoretinal fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pennsylvania. During Dr. Neamtu’s fellowship, he particularly enjoyed teaching and training residents, earning him the Resident’s Fellow Teacher award. Dr. Neamtu’s research interests include diagnostic testing and imaging modalities for inflammatory and infectious diseases of the retina and vitreous.

Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve, a cluster of a million small nerve fibers. These nerve fibers relay visual information from the back of the eye to the brain. Glaucoma is often caused by very high eye pressure, but genetics and other issues can play a role in its development. Some people with glaucoma may even have normal eye pressure. The groups at greatest risk for the disease are anyone over 60 (over 40 if you’re Black), those with diabetes, and people with a family history of glaucoma. Glaucoma is a top cause of blindness in older adults.

Macular Degeneration
Lucentis is FDA-approved as safe and effective in the treatment of “wet” macular degeneration. This more advanced type of the disease is characterized by growth of abnormal, fragile blood vessels in the retina.

Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetes affects the blood vessels throughout the body, particularly in the kidney and in the eye. Diabetic retinopathy is the name we give to diabetes’ adverse affects on the blood vessels in the eye. When diabetes affects the ocular blood vessels, they may develop leaks or contribute to the formation of scar tissue; these problems reduce the retina’s ability to detect and transmit images.

He is still a staff favorite, particularly because he does Botox injections and plastics. Many of the staff (who prefer to remain anonymous) have asked Dr. Jordan to keep them looking young! Speaking of staying young, you would never know it but Dr. Jordan has one daughter who has just started college. He is so great when we have mentally challenged patients in the office. He never tries to rush through the exam or talk through them. He really treats every patient like family.”
