Cryotherapy
Dr. Heather Roberts emphasizes the use of daily sunscreen first and foremost in all her patients to prevent these brown spots from forming in the first place. However, once these brown spots appear she uses a variety of lasers including Photofacials, chemical peeling agents, cryotherapy (freezing with liquid nitrogen) and sometimes topical bleaching remedies for these common conditions.
Emergency Care
3rd degree burns are true medical emergencies due to the extensive damage to the underlying blood vessels, nerves and muscle tissue. Do not attempt to manage these burns at home. Seek immediate care at an emergency room/ trauma or burn center.

Dr. Roberts is a nationally recognized Board Certified Dermatologist and laser surgeon with almost 30 years of expertise in acne, skin rejuvenation and anti-aging treatments. Having graduated with highest honors in biochemistry from Rutgers University, Dr. Roberts has a special interest in the science behind the products used to maintain healthy skin. She received her medical doctorate from the University of California, Irvine, and completed dual residency training at UCLA/Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Internal Medicine and USC Medical Center in Dermatology, respectively. This advanced training has given Dr. Roberts a deeper appreciation of the link between her patients’ general health and their skin.

For patients who do not want the risks associated with surgery or the cumbersome process of iontophoresis (using an electrical current to drive salt crystals into the skin to temporarily block the sweat glands), BOTOX® injections may be another option.

Wound Care
2nd degree burns reflect a deeper level of injury and will result in painful red blisters. These burns require special wound care to prevent infection, but luckily rarely result in true permanent scarring. In darker skinned patients, these burns may heal with either temporary darkening or loss of pigment. By treating these burns immediately, this side effect can be managed.

Cosmetic Surgery
Broken capillaries are commonly found on the cheeks and nose. They appear as small red threads just under the skin’s surface as a result of rosacea, sun exposure, frequent nose blowing, nasal fractures or cosmetic surgery to the nose. Broken capillaries occur when the capillary walls narrow and widen too quickly causing the muscles in the walls to tear. This in turn allows the blood to seep out resulting in formation of broken capillaries.
Dermabrasion

While previous methods like dermabrasion were harsh and required a lot of downtime, Fractora radiofrequency microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that stimulates collagen formation to reduce the appearance of acne scars and can even improve residual active acne.

Cosmetic Dermatology
As a holistic medical and cosmetic Dermatology practice, we believe in personalized care. As such, our patients often request appointments to accommodate multiple procedures, treatments, and medical concerns on the same day. While we are happy to offer these “extended time” appointments, it does create scheduling challenges when patients “No Show” or cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice. We appreciate your cooperation in paying a required $750 deposit at the time of scheduling for these types of appointments that are greater than 45 minutes.

Eczema
Dry skin is common. It can occur at any age and for many reasons. Lack of daily moisturizers and excessive use of harsh, drying soaps and hot water while bathing can lead to dry skin. As we age, our oil glands shrink in size and produce less oil predisposing us to dry skin. Harsh winter winds, low humidity environments, chlorinated pools and chronic sun exposure can all cause dry skin. In addition, some people are born with a genetic predisposition for dry skin, hay fever and allergic skin reactions like eczema. Even in non-allergy prone people, extremely dry skin can lead to a skin problem called dermatitis (derm-muh-TIE-tis) or eczema. Dermatitis or eczema is an inflammatory reaction of the skin. It appears as an itchy rash with patches of dry, red, irritated skin. The earlier dermatitis is diagnosed and treated the better. Without treatment, dermatitis gets worse.
