So far, nearly 2,000,000 American seniors have taken advantage of this new benefit of Medicare. At the visit, the staff and doctor take a complete inventory of your health history, including questions about living wills, past medical illnesses, and screening tests. The doctor or midlevel will then tell you what tests Medicare recommends for early detection of serious conditions. The process may take 30-40 minutes and can be done in conjunction with a regular follow-up visit or an office call for an acute condition. Figure it may take 30-45 minutes to finish this visit, in addition to the time needed to solve your acute issue or to follow-up up on chronic conditions. Among the things covered are: past illnesses, including surgeries. Chronic conditions. Immunizations. Living Will/Code Status/P.O.A, gender-specific screening (PSA, mammogram, DEXA scan, pelvic/pelvic) and general screening tests (aortic aneurysm for smokers) and instructional materials about chronic conditions. This visit does not include any tests or examinations, just review and discussion.

After accepting a position with Perviss Internal Medicine Group in Lincoln, Nebraska, Dr. Neal realized that he would prefer to start a new clinic, than to be the junior physician in a large, established group. So, when Longview's first surgeon, Dr. Fred Parke called, Dr. Neal accepted the offer to join his friend from their training days at Mayo Clinic. Their offices were initially located on the 3rd floor of the General Mortgage Building, at 14th and Broadway in Longview. Soon, they moved to a location at 11th and Broadway, partly in order to have ground level access for their patients.

1. In the early 1970s, President Nixon announced (via Surgeon General Jesse Steinfield) that the government was forcing the Cigarette Manufacturers to put labels on every pack of cigarettes, stating that smoking could be hazardous to your health. Victory for public health? NO NO NO. Dr. Steinfield was my professor when I was on the Oncology (cancer) team at Mayo Clinic. The truth is/was that the tobacco industry was suffering a major decline in sales and "new starts" (ie people starting to smoke) because of the effectiveness of anti-smoking ads on television. (For example, Hamilton Burger, the District Attorney who constantly lost cases to Perry Mason on TV, was dying of lung cancer and made an emotional plea to people to stop or never start.). So, along with some financial incentives, the tobacco industry proposed labelling packages in exchange for removing the ads. And, oh, my the way, they had also done market research that showed that the labels would have little or no effect on smokers.

Dr.Mark Rawson grew up in Las Vegas, where he played almost every sport; football, baseball, water polo, swimming, skiing and track. He attended BYU, interrupted by a 2 year Mission experience, then transferred to UNLV, from which he graduated with a degree in Biological Sciences, minor in chemistry. Four years later, he graduated with his Doctorate from the California College of Podiatric Medicine in SanFrancisco, and did his internship and residency in Foot and Ankle surgery at Northridge Hospital in Van Nuys, eventually serving as Chief Surgical Resident.

Upon completion of his residency training in extensive forefoot and rear foot reconstructive surgery, Dr. Tookes accepted a position to practice in Central Georgia for a year before ultimately deciding to serve our country as a Lieutenant in the US Navy for 3 years. After serving in the Navy, Dr. Tookes moved to New Orleans to provide care for patients residing in the city and its surrounding areas for the past 3 years. During his time in New Orleans, Dr. Tookes attained his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in Healthcare from Auburn University. Dr. Tookes and his wife have now decided to make their home in Southwest Washington to join Kirkpatrick Family Care and work alongside Dr. Richard Kirkpatrick and staff.
