Brush your removable appliance every day as a part of your regular brushing and flossing schedule. Because food particles and plaque can accumulate on your appliance just as they do on your teeth, soak the appliance daily. Dissolve a Polident, Efferdent or other denture-cleaning tablet in a glass of tap water at room temperature and soak your appliance once every day. Your appliance will taste better, and you will prevent plaque and bacterial accumulation.

Jaw Surgery
Surgery may be performed on the upper jaw, lower jaw, or both. During upper jaw surgery, the surgeon will cut the bone above the teeth so that the entire roof of the mouth and upper teeth can move as one unit. She will adjust the position until it fits with the lower teeth properly. After the bones are set, further orthodontic treatment can correct the positioning of the individual teeth.
Maxillofacial Surgery
Dr. Abrahams was raised in Ontario, Canada. She received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Western Ontario where she majored in Biology. She moved to the United States in 1991 to attend dental school at The Ohio State University. While attending The Ohio State University, Dr. Abrahams received the prestigious Thomas P. Hinman Student Scholarship Award, the William R. Wallace Dental Research Scholarship Award and the Deanâ€™s List Award. Dr. Abrahams has also published original research supported by the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation.

The Essix retainer is a transparent removable retainer that fits over the entire arch of teeth. Similar to Invisalign® trays, Essix retainers have no wires. They are inexpensive and easier to wear. They can be used for other treatments as well, including tooth movement and bridges.
