Night Splint – Night splints are specifically worn at night when you are sleeping. They are easy to apply and are very effective. It will provide the right amount of stretching for patients with plantar fasciitis and other common muscle conditions.
Cryotherapy
Warts are caused by a virus which leaves raised bumps or calluses on the feet. Pain occurs with weight-bearing and treatment consists of acids, cryotherapy or Cutera laser therapy.
Diabetic Foot Care

MRI
Pain, swelling, or bruising on the back of the heel or lower leg due to an injury or mis-step can cause inflammation of the Achilles tendon. X-ray and MRI are crucial to diagnose a possible tear which can be serious and lead to a rupture if not diagnosed promptly. MLS laser therapy is recommended to facilitate healing of the tendon.

Dr. Waters is board certified by the American Board of Foot & Ankle Surgery and is trained in Comprehensive Foot & Ankle Arthroscopy. Dr. Waters is published in the Journal of Foot & Ankle Surgery, has been in practice since 2007 and is on staff at Lancaster General Hospital/Penn Medicine for outpatient surgical procedures.
Wound Care
Diabetics are especially prone to foot problems. Podiatrists can offer preventive care through periodic office visits (covered by most insurance companies) and as Henderson Podiatry participates in the therapeutic shoe program, diabetics can be fitted for one pair of extra- depth shoes on a yearly basis. Neuropathy, or nerve damage is a common complication in diabetics. Our MLS laser therapy has been shown to diminish the symptoms of neuropathy. In addition, our doctors are all qualified to provide wound care for diabetic ulcerations. We utilize several modalities including skin grafts to successfully treat diabetic foot ulcers.

Corns tend to be smaller than calluses and are the hard center is surrounded by irritated skin. While corns can be found on the bottom of the foot where pressure is usually applied, it is more common that you find corns on the tops and sides of your toes and even between your toes. When pressure is applied, corns can cause significant pain and discomfort.

Sports Medicine
Bracing can be used to treat sports injuries as well as pathology of the foot and ankle. A fiberglass cast is utilized to obtain a custom fit. Clinical indications for bracing include: tendonitis, ankle instability, arthritis and drop foot secondary to a stroke. The pediatric patient can also be fitted for a custom brace for neuromuscular conditions such as central palsy or muscular dystrophy. We also make a special brace just for soccer players. Braces can also be recommended for the elderly to prevent falls where poor balance is an issue.

Achilles Tendonitis
Day Splint – This device is easy to apply and can be worn comfortably with shoes. Its main purpose is to alleviate arch pain but it may also be used for achilles tendonitis and drop foot.
Ankle Instability
Richie Brace – Designed with you in mind by Dr. Doug Richie, the Richie Brace caters to patients with mild to moderate tendonitis and chronic ankle instability. This brace is perfect for patients who want more flexibility in their ankle joints while wearing the device in their shoes. With an anatomic ankle axis hinge found on both sides, this brace will allow you to bend and move freely without injury. Patients who wear the Richie Brace never have to increase their shoe size and almost always forget they’re even wearing it!

Bunions Problems
Orthotics are devices worn to correct a physical problem, restore proper function or relieve pain. Orthotics can be used for flat feet, heel pain, arch pain, persistent ankle sprains and bunions. Orthotics “brace” the feet, controlling them so our feet hit the ground at the proper angle. In our office, we utilize the FORWARD MOTION state-of-the-art digital scanner. The image is then sent to our lab via the internet where a custom-fit device is fabricated. Based on the doctor’s prescription, orthotics are designed to eliminate pressure points and muscle strain. They allow you to resume normal activities in total comfort. Children who in-toe or trip while running can definitely benefit from orthotics as their feet continue to grow in better alignment.

Hammertoes
No one wants to hear the word “surgery” especially on the foot. Weeks of therapy with eventual recovery, and loss of work time are sometimes necessary when conservative measures fail. That is why, at Henderson Podiatry we offer in-office procedures for some conditions. In the video, Dr. Patterson explains how a hammertoe can be corrected in our office.
Heel Spurs
Heel spurs occur in at least 50% of people who have plantar fasciitis. Past treatments for heel spurs, a bony growth that begins on the front of your heel bone and points toward the arch of your foot, included surgery to remove the growth. Nowadays, surgery is rarely a treatment option and more plans for physical therapy, ice, and pain medications are used to treat heel spurs.

Ingrown Toenails
Ingrown toenails can be caused by cutting the nails too short, ill-fitting shoes, fungal infections or an injury. If the problem is acute, antibiotics or removal is recommended. If the problem is chronic, permanent removal of the offending border is an option
Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is caused by an inflammation of the band of tissue that stretches from the ball of the foot to the heel. Symptoms include burning, tingling, an uneven gait or limp. Stretching exercises, orthotics and MLS laser therapy are all used in the treatment of arch pain.
