Ace stores offer a wide variety of home improvement products, plus niche items and services relevant to the community. And of course, every Ace store offers that famous friendly, expert advice and service that set Ace stores apart from all the rest. Each Ace store is independently owned and operated by local entrepreneurs, hardworking, passionate business owners who are involved with and, many times, reside in the communities where their stores are. Theres a good chance youll see your local Ace store owner at the grocery store or Little League game. Ace is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year. The company was created by a small group of Chicago hardware store owners who joined together to purchase merchandise in bulk to save money and buy at the lowest possible price. This enabled even the smaller stores to compete effectively at retail despite larger stores in their market. Of course, Ace has many store owners in its family of entrepreneurs who joined well after their businesses were established, such as Emigh Ace Hardware in Sacramento, Calif., which celebrated its 100th year in business in 2008, and Wagner Ace Hardware in Ulysses, Pa., which celebrated 96 years in business this year.
