We recommend that all pets receive yearly wellness examinations for early detection of health problems. For our vaccination protocols, we follow the recommendations of the American Animal Hospital Association for our canine patients and the American Association of Feline Practitioners for our feline patients. We will create a vaccination protocol for your pet based on their life-style and their exposure risk, but our offered vaccinations include...
Veterinary Ophthalmology
We also work closely with the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Michigan Veterinary Specialists, Mid-Michigan Veterinary Surgical Referral Center, and The Animal Ophthalmology Center for any surgeries that cannot be performed in-house.
Comprehensive Examination
Oral care is an important factor in your pet’s overall wellbeing. Dental infections, broken teeth, and cavities can cause pain, lead to difficulty eating as well as systemic infections if left untreated. To help keep your pet healthy, we offer anesthetic dental cleanings and can perform routine extractions. An oral evaluation is included in every annual exam to help determine how to best keep your pet’s mouth in good shape.
Fleas have always been a Summer – Fall problem and Ticks a Spring – Summer issue. Each year we are experiencing an increasing Tick presence in Mid-Michigan. Our pharmacy carries
DAPP-4L: distemper, adenovirus type 2, parvovirus, parainfluenza, leptospriosis vaccine for dogs older than 12 weeks. After their puppy series is complete, this vaccine will be boostered one year later. They will then receive this vaccine every 3 years. The leptospirosis portion of the vaccine is still given on an annual basis.
K-laser accelerates wound healing, and decreases inflammation and pain, as well as reduces formation of scar tissue. Class IV lasers deliver a side effect-free and non-addictive treatment that provides dramatic results. Common conditions we treat with therapy laser include every neuter and spay incision, degenerative joint disease, canine hip dysplasia, intervertebral disc, back pain, bite wounds, trauma, ear disease and contaminated wounds. It stimulates the body’s inherent healing mechanisms.
Dr. Shinsky worked in Brighton and Haslett Michigan prior to opening Laingsburg Animal Hospital in 2002. Originally located on Main Street we moved to our current location in 2004. His special interests in veterinary medicine are Internal Medicine, General and Orthopedic surgery. He lives in Bennington Township with his wife Renee and numerous large and small pets. His hobbies are road and mountain bicycling, cross country skiing and woodworking.
Spaying and Neutering
We recommend that all pets be spayed or neutered around 6 months of age or older. By having your pet spayed/neutered, this will decrease their risk of reproductive cancers, limit roaming and marking behaviors as well as prevent pet overpopulation.
Microchipping your pet is an easy and inexpensive way to help ensure that your pets find their way home to you should they ever become lost. The computer memory in the microchip contains a unique international microchip number – no two animals will ever have the same number. A handheld scanner is used to read this number through the skin of your pet. In addition to the number, the microchip generates a reliability check to guarantee that your pet’s identifying number is read accurately. This all takes place in less than 40 milliseconds.
