The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, formerly known as the Department of Public Aid, is a state department that offers adoption, health care coverage and child support enforcement services. The department also provides foster and mental health care services. It offers the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), which includes financial assistance and winter heating services for low-income individuals and families. In addition, the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services provides developmental assessment, medical care and transportation services. The department offers financial assistance and support services to individuals with disabilities. It provides personal care, medication supervision and shopping assistance services for senior citizens.
