Teeth Cleaning
Not all dental cleanings are created equal. While the aim of regular dental cleanings is to remove plaque and tartar and maintain oral health, periodontal maintenance is a little more complex.

Crowns
Crowns are commonly used dental prostheses which fit onto a natural tooth to assist with any structural or aesthetic issues. The crown must be able to adhere firmly to a surface of the natural tooth, and in some cases may need some assistance. This is where crown lengthening comes in. In situations such as severe decay or significant chipping, the remaining damaged tooth will need lengthening to properly fit a new crown.
Bridges

Gingivectomy and Gingivoplasty
A gingivectomy refers to the process of removing excess or thickened gum tissue. This can be required for several reasons including aesthetic recontouring of the gums, gum overgrowth caused by certain medications, or as a side-effect of periodontal disease. This procedure is normally recommended by your periodontist when the gum tissue has overgrown or covered a portion of the tooth which should otherwise be exposed.
Periodontal Surgery
While at Harvard, Dr. Pham participated in research on dental lasers and their use for periodontitis as well as on a widely used dental material in implant dentistry- zirconia. He also presented on the use of dental lasers for periodontal surgery at the Ivy League Tri-School to residents and faculty from Columbia University, University of Pennsylvania, and Harvard University. Upon finishing his residency he was awarded the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID) Postdoctoral Award.
Deep Cleaning
Scaling and root planing is a common procedure performed by dentists to treat advanced stages of gum disease, or gingivitis. Gum disease creates periodontal pockets, which form due to a tartar build-up at the gum line. These pockets, containing both bacteria and tartar, accumulate and cause the gums to recede. A procedure known as scaling and root planing is a form of periodontal therapy involving a deep cleaning which does not involve surgical treatment.

Osseous surgery refers to a surgical procedure that are is to gain access to the tooth roots to treat periodontal disease. These surgeries are performed when the disease has begun to destroy the tissue and bone surrounding the teeth and other treatment methods have been ineffective.
Tooth Extractions
Ridge Augmentation
Ridge augmentation is a process needed following the removal of a tooth or if a tooth has been missing for a long time. Due to the loss of the tooth, the bone will then begin to shrink, creating an indention in the tissue and bone. Ridge augmentation works to regrow the bone. This may be required if a dental implant is planned to replace teeth in space that a tooth has been missing for an extended period of time. Your periodontist will perform a bone graft using local anesthetic. A bone graft material is applied to your existing bone and the covered with a membrane to protect the bone graft and promote healing.
Bone Grafting
The allograft bone is very safe and simply acts as a framework for your own surrounding bone to grow upon. An advantage to this form of bone grafting is the need for only one procedure as this bone is derived from an outside source. Without having to harvest the bone from the patient, this form of bone grafting is much more comfortable, faster, and can be done at the same time as extractions, or other dental work.

Orthodontics
Accelerated orthodontics are used to insure the successful results of braces in a much quicker timeframe. This terminology refers to a variety of procedures which can be used in addition to traditional braces to help achieve the patient’s desired results. While traditional means can take 2-4 years to correct your smile, the accelerated method can, in many cases, provide results within a year’s time.
Invisalign Orthodontics
In addition to the traditional orthodontic treatments such as metal braces, ceramic braces, Invisalign, and lingual braces, accelerated orthodontics require a surgical procedure. During this procedure, your periodontist will create space for the teeth to move more freely. This accelerates the treatment timeline and allows the orthodontist to complete your treatment in an expedited manner. Aside from the minimal discomfort during these in-office procedures, there are minimal risks involved in accelerated orthodontics. With proper oral hygiene and regular cleanings, accelerated orthodontics is a great option for patients wanting to maximize their time and get that straight, aesthetic smile even quicker.

He then went on to Emory University School of Dentistry in Atlanta, Georgia. After a year of clinical practices in general dentistry, he enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, graduating with specialty degrees in Periodontics and Periodontal Prosthesis.
