Dr. Davis earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and completed her residency at the Salem VA Medical Center in Salem, VA. Savannah Davis, OD specializes in primary eye care with an emphasis in ocular diseases, contact lenses and pediatrics. Dr. Davis was born and raised in Jefferson and is excited to return home and provide exceptional eye care to members of the High Country. When she isn’t caring for patients, Dr. Davis enjoys spending time outdoors with her friends and family, traveling, and being an involved member with her church. Western Carolina Eye Associates is grateful for this opportunity to grow and serve our community with this fantastic new addition to our team.

Primary Care
Penelope M. Copenhaver, OD joined Western Carolina Eye Associates in 2009. Dr. Copenhaver was raised in New Jersey and also has strong roots in Pennsylvania. She is a graduate of Rutgers with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and received her Doctor of Optometry degree from Pennsylvania College of Optometry. In addition to primary care, she has extensive education in Low Vision and Binocular vision. She is extremely successful in finding the correct prescription for the most difficult eyes, especially with multi-focal contact lenses.
Family Practice
Mandy L. Lanier, OD joined Western Carolina Eye Associates in 2012. Dr. Lanier grew up on a farm in rural central North Carolina and is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee and then completed a Residency in Family Practice Optometry at the Northeastern State College of Optometry in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Dr. Lanier speaks conversational Spanish and has volunteered with several medical mission trips in Central and South America and Mexico, providing eye care and glasses to underserved communities.

Daniel Krontz, MD is the owner of Western Carolina Eye Associates and has been a part of the WCEA team for 34 years. Dr. Krontz joined Western Carolina Eye Associates in July of 1987 and has been caring for High Country residents ever since. Dr. Krontz has performed over 15,000 cataract surgeries in the High Country. His special surgical interests are cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery, and corneal transplants but he is extremely proficient at a variety of ophthalmic procedures. For your convenience he performs surgeries in Watauga County and Ashe County. Dr. Krontz has built a team of caring medical professionals and looks forward to serving this community for many years to come.
