Cornell Plantations are botanical gardens that include the F.R. Newman Arboretum and natural areas. Located in Ithaca, N.Y., it is adjacent to the Cornell University s campus. The arboretum covers an area of more than 150 acres and contains fine collections of chestnuts, conifers, flowering crab apples, maples, oaks, urban trees and walnuts. Cornell Plantations offers noncredit, community outreach programs and tours throughout the year. Its members and Cornell University s students receive a discount on all program fees. It offers two types of guided group tours that include bus and walking tours for youth and adults. As the arboretum, botanical garden and natural areas of the Cornell University, Cornell Plantations is caretaker and source of education about a range of environments. Its fall lecture series brings together horticulturists, naturalists and others of broad environmental interest to campus for the enrichment of students and the regional community.
