At the site of the bunion, the patient may feel pain, a burning sensation, or even numbness. There may be inflammation as well. Bunions are usually visually apparent. However, x-rays are also taken to fully assess the condition. This can determine to what degree the bones are unaligned. Furthermore, bunions are progressive in that they usually worsen over time without the proper treatment. Joint issues can also play a role. Individuals with Rheumatoid Arthritis or other joint problems have a greater likelihood of getting a bunion.
Fibromyalgia
Dr. Dudley Morton, Father of Morton's Toe, wrote extensive articles on the repercussions of having a long second toe; he claimed that it can result in the following: back, knee, and hip pain, arthritis, fibromyalgia, bunions, hammer toes, and temporo-mandibular joint pain. Plantar Fasciitis
The most common cause of plantar fasciitis relates to faulty structure of the foot. For example, people who have problems with their arches, either overly flat feet or high-arched feet, are more prone to developing plantar fasciitis. The reason that many people with flat feet have heel pain is usually due to the fact that they do not have any support for their feet and thus cause an inflammation due to the over use of the plantar fascia. Most people who have heel pain due to inflammation have more pain when they walk barefoot and they have less pain with certain shoes, specially shoes with some heels.
Cryotherapy
To diagnose a plantar wart, Dr. Ravaei will examine the patient's foot and look for signs and symptoms of a wart. Because a wart is a virus, the goal of the professional is to remove the affected area that contains the warty skin cells, while keeping damage to the surrounding tissue to a minimum. In this case, Dr. Ravaei may choose one of several possible methods. Here are a few techniques that Dr. Ravaei utilizes. It needs to be mentioned that he will examine the patient and based on their condition, he will use the best technique to once and for all rid of this disfiguring condition. One of the methods is cryotherapy. Cryotherapy is when an extremely cold solution is used to freeze the wart and thus kill the virus. This treatment has been around for a while and it may require the patient to return to the office for a few treatments. Another common treatment is applying acid to the wart. The way this treatment works is very similar to the cryotherapy. First the lesion is identified and the solution is applied to the area. The solution usually kills the virus but this one as well requires for the patient to come back few times for a follow up.

Conditions that are similar to the pain associated with Neuromas are stress fracture of the metatarsals, inflammation of the tendons in the bottom of the toes, arthritis of the joints or nerve compression further up on the foot. X-ray will not show the neuroma, however, it is required to rule out other diseases. Few of the tests that help in the diagnosis of neuroma could include MRI, EMG or nerve conduction study. None of these tests will individually diagnose this condition but they all help in the diagnosis. If he cannot feel the neuroma and if the patient's symptoms are not common, one area that may be examined is the ankle.

Brachymetatarsia often results from the early closure of the growth center of a metatarsal or metatarsals. Other metatarsals continue to grow, though. Because the toe is shortened, it cannot handle the appropriate amount of weight when standing. Therefore, the longer toes take on a bigger load than the short one. This causes a thickened formation on the bottom of the toe. As the shorter toe moves upward, the longer toes crowd under it, causing pain and discomfort. There can also be an increase in calluses and pain under the surrounding area of the metatarsals. Along with the pain, many patients complain about the unattractive appearance of the toes and are ashamed to reveal their feet to anyone. This self-conscious feeling can lead to certain psychological issues such as depression.
Fungus
Although Athlete's Foot is contagious and can be spread by contact with an infected person or a contaminated surface, it can often be treated with over-the- counter antifungal medications. Some of these treatments include medications to terminate the fungus, medications to stop the sweating and itching of the feet, and the change of foot wear. Quite often over the counter medications do not help, should that be the case, Dr. Ravaei places the patient on a combination of medications. These medications will treat the patient in a short while. It should be noted that this condition can return, should that be the case, the patient needs to return for additional treatments.

Warts are viral in nature. They are the manifestation and growth of a contagious virus known as HPV (the Human Papillomavirus). It invades the skin through small cuts on its surface. Once they are internal through the skin, the virus can grow and spread to other locations on the body, stimulating the rapid generation of cells on the surface of your skin. There are over 60 different strains of HPV; HPV 1, 2, 4, 63 belong to the Plantar Wart. One can self-spread the lesions. Plantar Warts commonly begin in areas of traumatized skin. They are also contracted from communal areas such as locker rooms, bathrooms, and hotel rooms. In order to decrease the spreading of warts to others while in such areas, the use of disinfectants and sandals is encouraged.

Toenails often serve as barometers of our health; they are diagnostic tools providing the initial signal of the presence or onset of systemic diseases. For example, the pitting of nails and increased nail thickness can be manifestations of psoriasis. Concavity--nails that are rounded inward instead of outward--can foretell iron deficiency anemia. Some nail problems can be conservatively treated with topical or oral medications while others require partial or total removal of the nail. Any discoloration or infection on or about the nail should be evaluated by a podiatric physician.

If all nonsurgical treatment have not been effective surgical intervention can be considered to help relieve symptoms. Surgical alternatives involve resecting the anomaly and providing a more normal range of motion to the joint. Sometimes, this procedure may not be a correct choice. In that scenario, the surgeon might choose to fuse this joint. If a joint is fused the recovery might be longer and the patient might not able to bare weight for a longer period. A patient needs to go to physical therapy after surgery to speed up the recovery and increase the range of motion.

The latest weapon against fungal nail or Onychomycosis is laser. This treatment was started being utilized in 2008. A toenail fungus laser works by shining a focused beam of light in a narrow range, more commonly known as a laser, into a toenail infected with fungus (onychomycosis). The laser penetrates the toenail and vaporizes fungus embedded in the nail bed and nail plate where toenail fungus exists. The toenail fungus targeted laser is tuned to a specific frequency that affects cells that are responsible for infection.

Hammertoe can be caused or aggravated by many forms of arthritis, as well as by neurological disorders. In the latter case, nerves that supply the muscle or tendons either overwork or do not function well so that the toe lifts from the ground and becomes contracted.
Heel Spurs
Heel pain is most often caused by plantar fasciitis, a condition that is sometimes also called heel spur syndrome when a spur is present. Heel pain may also be due to other causes, such as a stress fracture, tendonitis, arthritis, nerve irritation, or, rarely, a cyst. Because there are several potential causes, it is important to have heel pain properly diagnosed. Dr. Ravaei will need to examine you and possibly x-ray your feet or use other modalities to determine the underlying source of your heel pain. Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the band of tissue (the plantar fascia) that extends from the heel to the toes. In this condition, the fascia first becomes irritated and then inflamed, resulting in heel pain. Quite frequently Dr. Ravaei will see some spurring or as medically termed osteophytes at the heel bone. It should be known that this spur is not the cause of the pain and it does not need to be removed to alleviate the pain.

"Although athlete's often get "athlete's foot," it is important to remember that anyone can get it. Athlete's Foot is also known as a "ringworm of the foot" and tinea pedis. It is the most common fungal foot infection. This disease is a skin infection caused by a fungus, usually occurring between the toes or on the soles of the feet. The reason this condition occurs more on the feet is due to the heat in the shoe, lack of sunshine and sometimes sweating that occur more in the foot. Some of the symptoms include itching, flaking, and scaly skin that could often could form into a blister. It may often lead to peeling and cracking between the toes or excessive dryness on the soles of the feet.
Ingrown Toenails
Ignoring such symptoms won’t make them go away. Left untreated, the condition can lead to skin infection and a level of pain so extreme that it may impede movement. Fortunately, a range of effective treatments is available, including ingrown toenail surgery.
Metatarsalgia
When the second toe is longer than the first toe, the parabola that is formed by the toes will not function normally. This means excess pressure is placed on other toes. This could lead to pain at the bottom of the foot. If there is pain at the bottom of the foot, the problem could cause a painful callus or metatarsalgia, otherwise known as inflamed bone. It could also lead to irritation at the top of the toe, which can be red and painful as seen in some of these pictures.

The patient is likely to be overweight. In milder cases the patient may describe a sensation of walking on a wrinkle in the stockings or a lump in the shoe. It is most common in the area between one's third and fourth toes. The growth of thickened nerve tissue, neuronal, is part of your body's response to the irritation or injury.

In some cases, wearing proper footwear helps manage Morton's toe. In addition, wearing appropriate foot orthotics, also known as shoe inserts, that feature arch support may help keep the foot aligned, However, Dr. Ravaei has met with patients that have pain that does not subside even after switching to more comfortable footwear. Therefore, the only option they are left with is a surgical correction, which involves shortening the toe. This generally leaves little to no scars on the foot. Recovery depends on the patient's health, age and activity level, but is usually fast.
