        This week I received my income tax & I have really been looking forward to taking my kids shopping. My kids have outgrown all of their summer clothes. Also, I recently redecorated the loft/playroom of our home, so I was also looking for two new office chairs.

        I visited Target with my four year old daughter. Together, we picked out shorts, t-shirts, a hat and a toy. I was after this that I noticed a woman following us through the store. It became obvious that she worked there. She was ducking behind shelves, etc while watching me. As I walked through the store, this made me madder and madder. First off, I do not take a purse in the store with me, I do not bring a stroller in with me, I do not try on items....Why? Because I have 30 years experience of being followed around stores for no good reason. In north Alabama, being black is justification enough for some people to harass me while I shop. I try to minimize their excuses because these types of experiences over and over can really take their toll and cause one to become bitter.

        I did nothing wrong or suspicious and neither did my four year old autistic daughter. She was happy to be picking out clothes for herself and I was so happy b/c she was. Unfortunately, the white female loss prevention associate put a real damper on the day.

        After checking out with over $300 in purchases, I saw that she'd followed us to the register. She ducked into the restroom because her cover was blown. I asked for a manager. He lied, said there was no female LP. I worked loss prevention. I know how it looks when they're watching someone. Also, she had started to enter the employee area when she thought I was gone. She saw me at the last minute & walked on.

        It is not okay to profile someone based simply on their "look" or their race. Was I going to make a run for it carrying $300 worth of clothes AND my 37lb autistic daughter? Efficient getaway, right? THIS WAS SO OFFENSIVE!! I want a face-to-face apology from this woman.

        Found fresh sushi and good selection of maxi pads. No fuel injector cleaner :-( Felt eyes on me the whole time I was shopping but left after purchase unmolested.
