She is an Alabama native and graduated Cum Laude with a double major in chemistry and biology from the University of North Alabama. She received her M.D. from the University of South Alabama. She was elected a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, the medial honor society, during her studies at South Alabama. Following an internship at Methodist Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, she completed her Ophthalmology residency at the University of Tennessee. Her two year fellowship in Eye Plastic and Facial Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery was completed in Abington, Pennsylvania.

Other, less common causes of ptosis are nerve or muscle damage from any cause, various types of eyelid surgery, infection, muscle weakness, and systemic diseases such as stroke and tumors behind the eye, myasthenia, hypertension, thyroid disorders and diabetes. Children can be born with congenital ptosis; the muscle is abnormally stiff and does not function well. This condition usually lasts until it is surgically corrected. Ptosis surgery is not the procedure of choice for removing excess fat and skin in the upper eyelid. Under certain circumstances it can be combined with the operation known as blepharoplasty when fat and skin removal is an added goal of surgery.

An endoscopic midface lift, or cheek lift, is performed by Dr. Brenda Edmonson for patients in Huntsville, AL to lift sagging cheeks, smooth out nasal furrows, and pull up the corners of your lips. It can be performed alone, in combination with an endoscopic browlift or laser resurfacing, or as part of a full facelift.
Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty can be performed in your doctor’s office, an outpatient surgical facility or a hospital. It is generally performed under local anesthesia, but can be performed under general anesthesia. The surgeon places fine incisions in the crease above each eye to correct problems of the upper eyelids. Then a thin crescent of excess skin and muscle is removed. The incisions are closed with very fine sutures. To remove the fatty deposits beneath the eyes, the incisions are placed just inside the lower eyelid. After the fat is removed, the incisions may be closed with absorbable sutures or may be left to heal naturally. When excess skin and muscle needs to be removed from the lower lids, the incisions are placed in the natural smile crease below the lashline. The procedure can take between 1 – 2 hours, depending on the extent of the surgery.

Skin Care
Following any skin peel, it is important that you avoid any exposure to the sun. Your new skin is very sensitive and susceptible to injury. Always apply a wide spectrum (UVA and UVB blocking) sunblock of at least SPF 15 twenty minutes before you go outside. Your surgeon will prescribe a proper home skin-care treatment program to ensure proper healing.
