The findings in Clinical Infectious Diseases indicated that “babies born to mothers with COVID-19 only rarely suffer from effects of the virus.” “These newborns generally do well in the six to eight weeks after birth, but more are admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) if their mothers had COVID-19 in the two weeks before delivery.” The study found that in “more than 200 babies studied, complications including preterm birth and NICU admission didn’t differ among mothers with and without COVID-19.”

Endometriosis
It is a disease in which tissue from the lining of the uterus implants itself on either the ovaries or other pelvic organs. This can only be positively diagnosed laparoscopically. Elevation of serum CA-125 levels has been noted in patients with endometriosis. Routine measurement of CA-125 levels in women with infertility is performed as part of the initial blood screen.
Pregnancy
If tubal occlusion is determined, in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) is usually performed because of its high success rate. Though a surgical procedure known as tubal reanastomosis by microsurgery can also be performed, however, it has not been performed as often as before. It is usually best reserved for certain types of previous tubal ligation. Tubal blockage due to infection has a low success rate following surgery and a high risk of tubal pregnancy.

Eggs do not respond as well as embryos to freezing, and generally the resulting success rate is not as high. However, vitrification (a new method for egg storage) has recently been shown to improve the chance of eggs surviving the freeze-thaw process and therefore increase the success rate. In addition, the new technology can be applied to single women approaching advanced age and those who have moral or ethical objections to embryo freezing.

Dr. Rizk’s areas of clinical and research interests have been ovarian stimulation including the development of the protocol. He is internationally considered a leading authority on ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome and made original contributions to the pathophysiology and prevention of the syndrome. Dr. Rizk authored a book solely dedicated to ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome that is considered the standard reference for OHSS. Dr. Rizk is an authority on endometriosis; its novel medical management and robotic surgery. He has received numerous academic honors and given presentations nationally and internationally. He is the editor and reviewer for numerous peer review journals.

I was terribly surprised to read the comments of August 14, 2010 from somebody who I assume had some kind of unforeseen circumstances with her surgery. I had a totally different experience. In 2008, I underwent an In Vitro Fertilization procedure as my husband had sperm problem. We had 3 excellent embryos transferred without success. Dr. Chuong suggested us have a laparoscopic surgery to evaluate and treat possible endometriosis, which could compromise the implantation process even given the quality embryos. Prior to the surgery, we did an extensive search and noted that Dr. Chuong was one of the top surgeons for infertility surgery in the area. He had performed more than 1,500 procedures since 1985 with excellent results. Many thanks to Dr. Chuong, who lasered all the endometriosis during the surgery, and I became pregnant via the 2nd IVF soon after surgery. Obviously his surgery had made the HUGH difference, and I have highly recommended him to my families and friends.
