Ordered Chile Relleno, which menu stated it came with a red sauce. It arrived covered in cheese, 3/4th's of my plate was covered in cheese. I tried one bite anyway, nope, couldn't handle it. Had to flag down another waiter to find our waitress as she hadn't been seen. In explaining the problem he asked me if I asked for the red sauce. I told him no, it states in the menu it comes with red sauce. He tells me I have to ask for it.I ask waitress for new order with just a little if the red sauce (they don't make ranchero sauce?). New plate arrives. Covered in red sauce. Half the plate is red sauce. Waitress even comments "Yeah, I know it's a lot." I have her take it back & tell her I'm done. She never returned, never asked my friend if her meal was ok, let alone if she needed anything. At checkout my friend is paying for hers, we're asked how was it. I tell her. She tells me I have to ask for red sauce... I tell her maybe the waitress should have told me when I ordered it didn't come as stated on the menu. I hadn't been since they moved, I'd quit going to the previous location because of over microwaved plates (hot & dry around outside, cold in middle) & tough meat. So, this was my first, & last, time at new location.A big NOPE!!
The overall presentation of the restaurant is great, there is staff, that makes laps in there checking to see if you need anything such as refills or chips, in addition to your server. I rate the food 4/5, just because there is a variation in the take on a dish, compared to what I have eaten in other places, but otherwise the food is great. I highly recommend.
I have visited El Agaves several times. Unfortunately I came down with a terrible case of food poison a few months ago from the restaurant during a busy lunch. Lesson learned, they do not handle shellfish (shrimp) well during heavy loads on the kitchen. The wait staff has always been horrendous, but in a small town where there are few restaurants, you learn to deal with it. Last night was the straw that broke the camels back. The server was so obnoxious and rude, the dining experience did not start well. My wife ordered a lemonade form the menu. We were given several excuses as to why it was taking so long. Finally my wife said, "just bring me a water." The server was obnoxious and replied "your lemonade will be ready in a minute." True to her rude comment, she delivered a glass of lemonade and a straw within a few minutes. My takes a few drinks and we go about our dinner conversation. Another server approaches the table and says "did you take a drink from that? It was another customers refill..." While providing a new lemonade. I lost my temper. Demanded to see the owner/manager and proceeded to ask him what in the world was going on here. Interestingly enough, they didn't see what the big deal was. So, be warned, you may be drinking out of someone else's glass, eating left over chips and dip or the rice and beans may be from another plate that was left "untouched" and gladly re-used.
Amazing food, great service! Would recommend to anyone!
